We now officially have crawling in my house - at least my son Samuel! So...now I'm thinking how to allow him to crawl but keep him safe at the same time. We spend most of our time during the day and evening in our living room. My concerns in this room is that if he crawls off of the area rug he hits his head on the hardwood floor (which he has done before I can catch him ! We also have two radiator heaters in the room. They are currently not hot but it sure would hurt if they bumped their heads on it. I saw something called a play yard in a magazine and wondered if it could be a possibility to use in the living room. It looks like several baby gates hooked together to make one big circle. I'm wondering, however, if the babies can knock it over if they try to climb up on it.

I'm just curious if anyone else has used something like this or has a similar situation as mine. I just want them to have a nice and safe area to play in.

    Thanks!

I just purchased the superyard xt for my house this past week and love it. It will slide on hardwood floors. Ours is on the foam alphabet play mats and stays put. My one twin does pull up on it and it is pretty sturdy when you have it fully extended into the hexagon. It is big 18 sq. ft of space and you can get an extender (2 more panels) to make 34 sq ft. I had a hard time finding them in any store except babies r us. Ended up getting it there with a 15% off coupon bringing it to about 55.00. (the extension runs about 19.00) Online the cheapest I saw was Walmart for 54.00 with free shipping if shipped to store. It folds up great and could go outside or the beach wherever and be cleaned pretty easily. I've also heard of people using it to protect the tree at xmas or block off whatever they don't want the little ones to get into. I think it is great. Sometimes you can get a used one off of craigslist but they still run around at least 40.00 and hard to come by.

We have two (one was permanently set up inside and the other traveled with us)! And now that they're too big to be contained that way, we still have pieces we use to protect the tv and the stairs at my parent's house.

We did use them to set up a baby compound when they were little. One end between the couch and changing table and the other on the side of the other couch held in place with either a chair or TV tray. If you're not going to have the ends attached to each other, it definitely can't be set up in a straight or almost straight line, it'd definitely go over, but angled slightly, worked great!

We have one that we keep in our living room as that is where we all spend our time. Our house is an open floor plan and we do not have any separate rooms downstairs for them to play safely in. We use the superplay yard thing and I leave one side open so it is not so small, but discourages them from running in the direction of the tv. My very active dd Lily cannot even knock it down or climb on it.

Thanks for your help with this. For those of you who did use this, how long would you say you used it? Is it worth getting at this point?

    Thanks so much!

We had a Super Play Yard plus extra extensions and put foam tiles under it and some blankies and boppies and toys, and they loved it! It was great while it lasted!

    Highly recommended! :)

For us it was. I think we got it when they were like 7 months and used it hmmm...don't remember. But we repurposed the gates to use around the Christmas tree and the TV stand later. So, we got extra use out of them beyond their original purpose.

Once the girls became mobile it became necessary to have one. For safety and sanity reasons :p

    They even cruise along.
