My DH just told me that his uncle volunteered to come out and build this playhouse for the girls. It's so cute, but I'm worried they'll put so much work into it and then the girls won't play with it much. They have absolutely no interest in baby dolls and stuffed animals right now. Am I worrying needlessly? Should we just go ahead and build it? The uncle is very good with woodworking, but is getting quite elderly, so I think we need to take him up on his offer now if we're going to do it. How long do little girls usually like playhouses?

OMG that is SOOO cute! This year they might just be facinated with going in and out of the door, but next year they get into imaginative play and will really use... probably for years to come. How sweet that your DH's uncle is doing that for you guys.

Wow! That is very cool!! My girls love their playhouse, but they don't play with their baby dolls in there. They just love going in and out, opening and closing the window etc... I wouldn't worry about it and I would definitely have him build it!!

That playhouse is seriously cool, I would have him build it and even if they don't play with this year, I am sure they will play with it for years to come!

    That looks amazing!

I can tell you that we have a Step 2 plastic playhouse in our basement -- this one (except our version has a full door):

    http://www.step2.com/product.cfm?product_id=1336

Nadia got it for her 2nd birthday, and has played with it non-stop since then, and I anticipate she'll use it for another two or three years, at least. And K&K absolutely love it, so I definitely think we'll get our money's worth.

On the flip side, my best friend built a playhouse similar to the one you're looking at, and her DD didn't use it much, simply because it was outside (they live in South Florida), it was hot, it got dirty and spider-infested, and it was too much trouble. Another friend who lives locally also has an outdoor playhouse, and it's the first thing Nadia runs to every time we go over there.

So if it were I, and we had the space in our yard -- I would LOVE to have a playhouse like that!

I would let him. They may love it, it is different from a baby doll. I would think they would get many years of use out of it. What a great offer.

Build it. Little kids all love to have a place they can call their own. Even if they were boys they would love it! I hated dolls as a kid and I would have loved a playhouse.

That is very cute. The people behind us built something similar for their little girl. We saw her play in it a few times, but not all the time. They also built it in a low spot in their yard, so it did flood a few times. Now about 4 years later they took it down.

I would take him up on the offer. I loved playing outside in my playhouse as a kid. Even as I got older I played in it a lot. Once I got to be 11 or so my friends and I would use it as a place to escape from parents, I read in it a ton as I got older and had sleepouts in it etc. It also became the place where I would get in trouble as I got older. If my parents had been smart they would have taken the thing down before I got to be like 14 or 15. ;) But I used mine for YEARS.

Wow - that is gorgeous! I would definitely let them build it. Even if the girls don't "get it" right now, they will enjoy it for years to come and it is big enough that it should fit them for a long time. My boys could care less about dolls, etc. right now, but they played for a long time in my old playhouse in my parents' backyard when we went to visit them last week.

What a sweet gesture by your DH's uncle.
