So, we're having a friend and her baby over tomorrow for a play date and it will be lunch time for the mommies. I wanted to have something prepared for lunch, but I'm not sure what she can eat that won't upset the baby later. She told me she had cheese last weekend and it was bad for her little one later, so dairy is out. I'm thinking things like onions and broccoli would also be bad.

Any suggestions of something light, quick and easy that would be OK for her? Thanks!

Everyone is so different...I have been able to eat just about anything with no problems for either of these two - including the forbidden chocolate, tomato sauce, and even spicy curries and salsa. I do know other people who have dairy issues, though. In addition to skipping dairy (since she seems to be having a problem), I would avoid anything really spicy or acidic if you want to play it safe. You could keep it simple and just have a nice salad (skip the onions if you're worried) and maybe some sandwiches. Chicken salad would be good for the protien...I know I'm still avoiding lunch meat because of nitrates (and because I think it's generally gross anyway :p ). You could also make some type of pasta with an olive oil sauce - I like is with sauteed garlic and some veggies. I honestly think most of the things people warn you about with nursing are myths unless you have really sensitive babies so I wouldn't worry too much. It's nice that you will avoid the dairy for her since lactose really does affect wuite a few nursing babies, but other than that, maybe just keep it so she can add things herself (like don't mix the salad, but have all of the componants prepared so she can skip the onions if she wants to). It's so nice of you to be concerned!

Well, send her our way...we'll talk her out of that food affecting her baby thing.

How about a chicken club sandwich with avocado, chicken, turkey bacon, lettuce, mayo on a ciabatta roll and sweet potato fries with a yummy dip?

ETA: What a gracious host you are.

Perhaps a bowl of cut up fruit... or a fruit tray? What a great hostess!
