we did at around 17 months. and haven't had too many plate dumping incidents. :pardon: the few we have had means an automatic end to the meal.

I started with bowls (slip resistant bottom from IKEA) and melamine trays back at probaby 16 months old, maybe 15... it was hit or miss... lots ended up on the floor. I liked the divided tray, but one bit the dust from being thrown too many times.

I'd say that now at 21 months for the past month or two its been pretty good... I usually just put all their food in the bowl and it remains on the table.

i've also tried to ask them to give their bowls back to mommy if they are done... instead of tossing the bowl... seems to have worked a bit. though food still gets "dropped" on the floor... I'm wondering when I can remove the vinyl floor covering!

We only occasionally give our boys plastic bowls. For them it's a huge distraction, and they spend most of the meal stirring. :pardon: And then one usually ends up on Jack's head. :(

The best luck we've had is with pudding, but even then they (by that I mean JACK) likes to up-end the bowl and fling the contents around.

I think it will be a while before plates and bowls make a regular mealtime appearance in our house. :gah:

We started regularly with plates and bowls around 20 months. Like Rachel, the rare times we have had plate and bowl dumping it meant meal time was over.

We started in the last couple of months. They are 20 months now. They are pretty good about it now. There are times that they take the food they don't like off the plate and make a mess, but it's not too bad.

We don't use plates or bowls very much at all. I'm going to start working on that though!

i started letting them use their own bowls and spoons last week. they usually eat what they want and then start playing with the bowls when they're done. its pretty cute, and i just kind of let the dogs eat whats fallen.
