I am very new to the pregnancy experience but have learned a lot from reading your posts :)

It seems like I can't count on the third trimester to get a lot of baby planning done in case I'm on bedrest or just too tired...

What do you recommend doing doing my first and second trimesters? I thought maybe clearing out closets and making space for baby stuff would be a good first trimester task. I want to get as much done as I can before I start work again in September but don't want to jump the gun either. The thing is, I don't really even know everything that there is to do being a first time pregnant mom!

    Thanks!!!

I really didnt do anything until about 26 weeks. We just started moving furniture (2 days ago) in our room to make room for the crib.. (we dont have a room for a nursery). you never know how your pregnancy will be. I am tired, but not overly tired, i still go shopping and go out. You never really know what your pregnancy will turn out to be. I would get as much done as soon as possible.. But i procrastinate and we didnt find out it was twins until 18 weeks... GL

    Hey!
I know how you feel. I'm a first timer as well expecting at the end of October.

I was given this rule of thumb by my doctor, she told me to be on the safe side to have the room 70% done by your six month (with odds and ends coming from your shower and friends! :) ). To be honest we really didn't start anything till about month 4 almost 5.

During my first trimester when I wasn't in bed asleep by 9!! I clean out the closet of the babies room and started moving stuff out (while I was still able to move stuff around). After that (which my Hubby and I did the cleaning in 2 weekends), spend time deciding how you want to decorate it!! :a_smil09: The fun part! Till we knew the sexes, we had three scenarios (neutral, girls and boys). OH! and you can register! Start with the basics like bottles and stuff like that till you decided what you want.

Now we know what we're having, we're in full work mode. Today we put togehter the cribs and furniture, next weekend we're painting the room. Just in case anything happens, I drew a sketch of the room - so my hubby can continue if I can't (which he appreciated - since he was afraid he'd get it wrong).

My personal thing especially since your getting stuff for two - get stuff little by little. If you know the theme and how you want the room, I say it doesn't hurt to start getting stuff now. you don't want to drop a ton of cash all at one time and it's easier on the pocketbook.

    Hope this helps.

The second trimester would have been ideal for me to work on this kind of stuff... but don't leave too much toward the end b/c as you read here, lots of women have very unexpected complications come up which make it difficult to impossible to get all of this ready. I would have the clothing that you need just for the first six weeks ready to go... onesies, sleepers, spit up cloths, etc. Just put all of it in a basket and have it ready to wash... I wouldn't actually wash it yet b/c if you wash it and let it sit for six months you'll feel like it needs to be washed again!! I would get the room set up by month six...again, probably wouldn't get the bedding washed, but get it ready to be washed... all you really need is the crib sheets and pads...you don't really need the comfortors or bumper pads. Outside of this stuff there isn't a huge amount that you really need...yeah, you could stock up on wipes or diapers, but if you are having a shower you might get a lot of that kind of stuff then. You really don't have to wash too much clothes in advance. Newborn or 0-3 month is all you need initially along with spit rags, wash cloths, bedding, etc. Don't do too much at any one time regardless... you don't want to wear yourself out all at one time!!

I have been very antsy to get things rolling on getting the room together, and am only 16 weeks! I am so paranoid if I don't do it now, it will not get done~
It is making me more anxious to know what these babies are, so I can get MORE done, ha ha ha! We just transitioned my poor 21 month old out of his crib today and bought him a bed, so we have a crib, and don't have to buy two~ we will see how it goes~

I read an article from Twins Magazine's website that you should try to have everything done by 30 weeks. I would attend birthing classes during the sixth month and have the shower by 30 weeks. My husband and I have picked picked up several second hand baby gear, etc. and registered for the rest. I would look into nursing (if you plan to) by 30 weeks as well. We are due middle of Nov. and plan to have the nursery painted and set up (with what we have) by Labor Day. Shower is Sept. 9 (29w 6d). I also attended my first mothers of multiples group locally at 17 weeks.

This is advice based on what I've heard from many mothers of multiples and online resources. You should, of course, do what works for you. :sign0016: and congratulations!
