My mom suggested hiring a babysitter to stay w/the kids once theyre in bed for the night but DH feel VERY VERY wary about this...

would you be comfortable doing this?

I know I used to babysit for kids of families staying at the inn where I worked in highschool but now that they're MY kids i guess Im wierded out by the idea but maybe im being too paraoid..

    wwyd?

No, I wouldn't do it. But, yesterday was the first time I ever left my girls (for 2 hours) with anyone besides DH, so maybe I'm too protective.

I have mixed feelings about this, but I have done it. We went to an all-inclusive in the Caribbean when my DS was 18 mos old. The women that worked in the day care/kids program were also available to babysit at night (he never did the day care/kids program, but my older nephew did and the women were very good). We had one watch him several nights, after I put him to bed, so that we could go to dinner. This worked very well and the woman basically sat and read in the room while my son slept. We were on the property, and it felt safe.

I have mixed feeling because I know in the US they have babysitter lists at hotels and I'm not sure I would do that, but at this resort I felt okay about it... not sure why?!

I definitely wouldn't do that. I hear too many crazy stories these days and I don't think I would be able to enjoy myself.

We recently took two trips when the girls were 6 months old. One night, they had fallen asleep in their car seats on the way home. DH and I hadn't eaten yet so we found a great restaurant and had dinner/drinks while the girls slept in their car seats. Maybe something like that could work for you? Also, a few nights one of us would stay at the hotel with the babies while the other picked up dinner and wine. Believe it or not, we had a great time having dinner in our room!

Also, you may end up being so exhausted that you don't feel like going out in the evenings anyway. DH and I couldn't believe how exhausing it was traveling with babies ... we were so tired by the time they were asleep. Have fun on your trip!

We did feel comfortable using a babysitter when the twins were six months old at a resort where we stayed. We were able to ask for references and see that the sitters recommended had red cross certification. These two components were necessary in order to be recommeded by the resort where we stayed. I also noticed that it was a short list, so I knew not 'anyone' could be listed as a babysitter there, KWIM?

We stayed at a resort in Jamaica that had a personal nanny for each family. I think that is the only way I would do it. We never left the resort and could check in at any point with the nanny and kids.

I also stayed in a hotel once when I was in a wedding. My friend lived nearby and she recommended two girls to babysit during the reception. She knew them well, but it was still a bit strange for me.

Yes. But ONLY if they were asleep. That is the ONLY way I would do it and I would not be gone for long.

I couldn't do it all - I am sure that the hotel checks the people out but I would not enjoy myself even if they were sleeping -

No, it's just not something we'd do. We'd probably take one of our nieces along to babysit for us if we wanted a sitter there.
