If you did this, at what age and how did your girls react? I'm thinking about going out and doing this afternoon!

I've heard of people doing this at birth to whenever. I also heard that some people can do it at their pedi's office to ensure sanitary conditions. (Rather than a teenager at the mall) Also, some people take their kids to a tattoo and piercing studio as they are held to much higher standards than the mall locations as well.

Good luck no matter what you decide [IMG]

I got my dd ears pierced when she was 2 months old... she cried only as they were doing the piercing and stopped about 30 seconds afterwards. I touched to see if it would hurt her and they never have bothered her...just don't forget to keep up with the alcohol rub and turning them. She has never tried to grab at them or anything...Good luck, they are going to look so sweet!

We had Ava's done at 3 months, and she cried just a bit, but for only 30 seconds or so. She has never once pulled on them, nor have we ever had any problems with them whatsoever!! And she looks too darn cute! [IMG] I know this has been a hot button topic here in the past, but do whatever you decide is best. Good Luck!!! [IMG]

The pediatrician did my daughter's ear piercing about six years ago. I swear it was done after her first set of vaccines (around 3 months)but I was told that I would have to wait until 6 months to do my baby daughter's piercings. My older daughter cried for about 2 minutes after the piercing and I nursed her and she quieted down. She never played with them and they healed beautifully. My worry is that after six months, she might be able to play with her ears and cause infection. I think it is better to pierce sooner rather than later, when they can play with their ears and tug, which might hamper the healing process.

My brother is eager to buy the baby earrings. I can't wait to see what she will look like with pretty diamonds in her ears.

BTW.....after having witnessed my son's circumcision (sp?) I would not think twice about piercing. It amazes me that some people think you shouldn't pierce a baby's ears but will readily concede to a circumcision.

I was going to pierce their ears but then decided against it because I didn't want to add another thing to my plate (i.e. taking care of their ears and dealing with earrings everyday). Every girl in our family gets their ears pierced as a baby so, at this point, Ainsley & Sierra are the only ones who don't have pierced ears. I've decided to wait until they are old enough to ask for it.

Really? Why? What are the health benefits of ear piercing?

Personally, I couldn't care less what other parents do so far as either, but there ARE certain health and religious reasons for circumcision, whereas ear piercing is PURELY aesthetic.

Sara, check to see if your Pedi will do it.

I should have known that asking about ear piercing would start some kind of controversy [IMG]

Just an update - I did it this afternoon and it was not a big deal. Each of them cried for about 20 seconds and then went back to smiling. And they look really cute!

I had my first daughter's done right after her first immunizations (2 mos) and she did awesome. Since the car seat, her clothes, etc. were always pulling her earrings out I decided to wait with my second daughter until she expressed an interest. She wanted them done when she was 3 1/2...that was a year ago and she hasn't taken them out or lost them. With the twins, I will also wait, but only because like Melissa said...it will me one more thing I have to take care of! [IMG]

That's great they didn't have any problems!! I bet they look beautiful...where are the pictures?? [IMG]

I'm going to have my DD's done when she's older (if she wants it done, that is) I had mine pierced when I was 10 and it's one of my favorite childhood memories. I got to go to the mall and pick out what kind of posts I wanted and then my parents bought me a pair of gold earrings to wear when I could take the piercing posts out. I felt very grown up and it was really fun. I want to do that with my little girl too [IMG]
I quit a job at the piercing booth when I was in college because I couldn't pierce a baby's ears. I got as far as putting the dots on her earlobes and I just got scared and couldn't do it.
If I were going to have hers done this young I'd go to the pediatrician or to a professional piercing salon with a good reputation. Skip the mall booth with the 'earring stapler'

Hi. I got mine done at around 3 months. I did it at the mall at an earpiercing place. The mananger of the store did it. The girls were wonderful about it. They cried for about 10 seconds and that was it. They are healed. I think the younger they are the better it is for them. And they look so cute and sparkly.

Rosie: Absolutely none. Of course I realize that aesthetics are the only reason to pierce (in our culture anyway) My husband and I argued over circumcision(one day I will spell that correctly) with me arguing FOR it. I was only stating that I had heard objection to piercing, both here and elsewhere where people stated that they opposed piercing and likened it to circumcision. The two are in no way comparable and that was my point.

Sara: No controversy here. Just friendly discussion. I hope you post a pic of your girls in their new earrings. I bet they look just adorable.
