I was wondering when did you pierce your babies ears. I know they do it at my doctor's office, but I keep forgetting to call to find out how long I should wait.

I know some say 6 months, but then I've seen some 6 week olds with earrings....is it personal prefrence?

The pedi did my girls ears at their 9 month appointment. She does it at the 9 month appointment b/c there are no other shots at that appointment.

Your lucky our doctor's office doesn't do ear piercing and the mall kinda scares me for babies. DH says no way until Lily can tell us herself that she wants them pierced, but I think baby girls look cute with earrings. This is a fight I will lose with DH, so we will wait until she is at least 5 or 6 years old.

we actually had to wait until Abby was about 9 mos old because her earlobes were too small!!!

DH tried to fight me on it but I basically told him that he CHOSE to have his son circumcized and I CHOSE to have my daughters ears pierced...fight over!

We had DD's done at 4 months and we had to redo one of them when she just turned a year because she moved so much originally so they weren't even. Now you can't tell and we chose to do them on a day she was already having her shots. I figured she had some tylenol on board for the shots and she was going to cry anyway so I just wanted it done and over.

I would love to get Sophia's ears pierced but DH will not allow that to happen. I don't even know I would be able to slip ear piercing past him when she's older!!!

My dh also says no way because what about them pulling on their ears. He thinks they should be old enough to be able to take care of them themselves so I guess we'll wait. I can kind of see his point.

My oldest got hers pierced on the day her 2 month appt since she was getting shots that day any way. They healed up quick and I didn't have to worry about her messing with them when she was older. I was going to do that this time and then got caught up with other things. I plan to do it at the next shot appt though.

When I was growing up, my parents made my sister and me wait until we were each 8 years old. I suppose I'll continue the tradition - that way, DD will be able to care for them, and can make the choice herself.

We haven't pierced DD's ears. When she's old enough to ask, we'll let her.

I did my girls at 6mo after their 3rd round of tetanus shot. I had no problems, they handled it well and there has been no tugging or grabbing at each others. And they look AWESOME!!

    Good luck!!

My parents wouldn't let me pierce mine until I was 12yrs old! So I will continue on with that tradition, altho I don't think i'll make them wait quite that long!

My DD is 2 1/2 and I'm going to wait until she's older and can ask to have it done. Personally, I wouldn't mind doing it now but I want her to take care of them herself. I think I was 4 when I had mine done.

I haven't gotten either of my girls ears peierced. I thought it should be their decision to put holes in their ears, not mine. My dd is 9 yo and all her friends now have them pierced. She is still considering it.

I thought I would do it when they were babies but decided that I really didn't want to deal with the added responsibility of earrings on top of already caring for twins. :) So, we'll wait until they're old enough to take care of their ears themselves and they can make the decision.

FWIW, I can't think of a single other girl in my large family other than the twins who did not get their ears pierced before 6 months old.

Of course I'm not the majority here but rather the minority but it's her body, it's her choice. You should wait until she tells you she wants it done. If my girls want their ears pierced, that's fine but only after they are old enough to make that decision and understand the consequences.

That's what we'll do too. I hope to push it off until age 6 at the very earliest.
