When I was in the hospital with the stomach flu yesterday they gave me phenergan to stop the vomiting. I noticed on someone else's post that their doctor would not allow them phenergan while pregnant. I was in L&D and they passed everything by my ob-gyn before giving it to me so I assumed it was okay. Has anyone heard that it is not safe in pregnancy? Has anyone taken it while pregnant? To top it all off it turns out I am allergic to it because instead of knocking me out and stopping the vomiting I ended up twitching and shaking so badly I couldn't even lie in the hospital bed until they finally gave me a small tablet of ambien. I also ended up vomiting AFTER they gave me the phenergan. Anyway, feeling better today after breaking a fever last night but a little worried about how all of this - the drugs and the fever - affected my babies. Thanks, Amy

I took it while I was in the hospital on mag. I took that and Zofran. The Phenergan made me really sleepy though. I was so nauseous from the mag! I was on mag for a month plus ambien every night and either zofran or phenergan and mine are perfectly healthy! I'm sure it's fine! Try not to worry.
I took the Phenergan at the beginning but it wasn't strong enough and I always just fell asleep. The Zofran is amazing though!!! Good luck.
I took it during my first trimester and my RE had given me the rx for it so I am pretty sure it is safe. It would knock me out as well and did keep me from vomiting, but didn't help with nausea.
I'm a RN and I felt comfortable taking phenergan when I was in the hospital with PTL. It's absolutely safe. If that is all you've taken then you have nothing to worry about. If you have nausea in the future request zofran because it won't give you that bad side effect and it works really well. Yes it's absolutely safe as well.Phenergan is classified as a pregnancy category C drug. A and B categories are proven to be safe and C drugs have not shown any harnful effects in pregnancy. D drugs re not okay and so on. So from now on you can ask how a drug is classified and then you can determine the risk versus the benefit.Zofan is a category B drug so it is classified the same as tylenol. Hope this helps. I took Phenergan during my first trimester, my Dr had no problem giving it to me. I had 24/7 nausea that wouldn't even let me sleep. So, it was good for me since it made me sleepy. Didn't so much help with the nausea, but I was knocked out so I wasn't aware I was feeling bad.
I got it from my doc during my first trimester; she was comfortable giving it to me. HOWEVER: I had a VERY crazy series of AFP results, and they finally figured out it was from the phenergan and zofran because I have a bit of a liver issue - so make sure you don't. If you do, I'd discuss w/your doc.
I was given phenergan during delivery with my boys---turns out I'm allergic too! I had the same horrible shaking that you did, although I didn't throw up anymore. I hadn't realized it was a Class C. Now we know, eh?
They gave it to me along with the mag at 33 weeks, I delivered at 34 and we all turned out just fine. I think you'll be OK.
My OB prescribed both Zofran and phenergan for me when I first presented with hyperemesis. I tried the Zofran first and it worked, so stuck with that (am still on it at 20+ weeks). But, I know she wouldn't have prescribed the phenergan if it were risky. I am sure the babies will be fine!
