Well, last night they decided they were going to maybe take him into surgery today and close up his chest. He had lost alot of the fluid that they needed him to (he weighed 9 lbs when they weighed him last night and when they did this morning, he weighed 8 lbs.) He's filled with all this fluid. Anyways, he had lost so much fluid that they were teasing that he was an "over achiever" and had lost too much fluids. They actually had to give him more! Other than that, things have been pretty much normal - well as normal can be. So, this morning, after the doctors did their rounds, they werent sure if they were going to do the surgery or not - it was up to Dr. Hennein. At about 12, another doctor came in and told us taht he had secided to wait on the surgery until monday to give the swelling in his chest time to go down. After the chest is closed, we'll be waiting a few days for the vent to be taken off and then after that, it'll be a few more days until each of the other tubes are removed. Slowely but surely....we're making it. He's such a little trooper.

It's such a hard thing to go thtrough seeing your child laying there looking like "mommy, help me..what are all these things..." I think it's starting to get to me...i miss my boys but at the same time, I watnt o be here with him to let him know we're here for him. Does that make sense?

So glad to hear he is doing so well Amanda. He sure is a trooper. I think your feelings and emotions are perfectly normal too.

I can't imagine what you are going through...I'm sure I would feel torn in two as well. I think that so many moms have to make choices like this...and I for one think I would probably choose to be with the child who needs me most. And until Peyton is really stable he needs you there, and you need to be there.... I'm sure your family is probably with your other boys and love them a lot, so you can know that your boys at home aren't lacking for attention and love. And when this is all over you can do something special just with them. I think it's incredible that they've had his chest open all week...I had no idea that heart surgery could involve that...I thought they opened it, did the surgery and closed it...I didn't know someone could go for days with their chest open. I think that'd really freak me out. Hope Peyton recovers really smoothly from all this, and that he goes on to be a very healthy baby.

Amanda, it sounds like you are being as strong as Peyton is. I can only imagine how hard it is, but it sounds like things are progressing and soon you will all be home as a complete family.

They actually do it alot more now - not closing the chest - as it helps in the swelling and such. He swelled up so much and with all the fluids it was prett much impossible to close him up .... plus the doctor likes to be able to go back in and check for clotting and such....good in my book i guess... anyways, the plan is still to close him up on monday...Go Peyton!!
