We have two 6 yr old pugs that were our first little babies. Unfortunately they shed like crazy and I can't keep up with all the hair. I am vacuuming constantly(carrying it up and down the stairs) so that it doesn't get all over the babies and their stuff.(which it will anyway). So for those of you that have pets that shed any suggestions on a good sweeper that picks up pet hair? Or even something that helped them shed a little less?

We have the same problem and now that our girls are crawling there's always dog hair on them! My mom has a furminator and that gets rid of a bunch of the pet hair.....but it's just not worth the time it takes to brush them for me. I don't have the patience.

I also would be interested in good ideas for cleaning the hair up.

I have a yellow lab who sheds like crazy, too It doesn't matter if I brush her, the hair still falls off faster than I keep up with the cleaning. My only suggestion I can offer is to get a shop vac (home depot) because it has a high suction (much better than regular vacuum). If you have mostly carpet I wouldn't suggest it as you have to be really strong to run that across carpet with just your arm. But if you have mostly wood floors it works great. I just vacuum the perimeter b/c seems like most of the fur automatcially gets caught in there in clumps. Its an easy fix when you can't stand seeing dog hair.
I would love other suggestions too though!

I have two pugs too :D I have the furminator and it helps but lets face pugs shed uncontrollably all year long. Have you ever tried getting a roomba? We have one and we set it to run when we go to bed. It works great on a room by room basis. Not so good if you leave it to run the whole down stairs. I just run it in the family room where the boys spend most of thier time.

It is nice to meet another pug lover.

I second the shopvac for wood and/or tile. It works so much better than our other vacuum. We have a chocolate lab and there is dog hair everywhere. I'm dreading the day I see them with a handfull of hairball.

I love my Dyson for picking up all the hair. It's pricey, but it gets the job done well - it gets more done in one pass than our old vacuum could in four. In addition to the hair it always gets up the little bits and pieces of things that the dog shreds or drags in.

I've heard good things about the Roomba also.

    Good luck!

I actually have both. I love the Dyson. I vacuum w/ that once a week and its suction is amazing. Then on a daily basis I use the roomba. That way I am only vacuuming once a week but the floor/rugs stay clean.

Love, love, love, love my Dyson Animal. We also have a big sticky roller on a handle (can't remember the brand, but I got it at the grocery store) that we use sometimes. My only advice on them shedding less is to consider what you are feeding them? Quality dog food may help - you could ask your vet.

We have 2 indoor Aussies that shed like crazy year round. We love our Dyson - we were a little skeptical at first, but it is fantastic and worth every penny. We took 3 other vaccums (Oreck, Kirby, and whatever our old vac was) and vaccumed part of a high traffic area really well. We then used the Dyson over the areas that we had already vaccummed with the other vaccums. You wouldn't believe the crap that Dyson pulled up that the others left behind. Truly nasty to think that was always sitting in our carpet! But seriously who has time to vaccum?? I was debating getting a Roomba (I have two friends that swear by them). Thinking maybe Dyson once every week or two and let the Roomba run in between. Just my $.02.

Does anyone use the Roomba with a dog that's out all day? We have a lab that has the run of the house and I'm afraid she will either eat it or just be terrified of it all day. It doesn't get too full of hair? I've just seen the amt of hair in the canister vac and I can't see that in the little Roomba, but I guess if it runs daily and you empty it daily it would never get that bad. These work for wood/tile? I wondered if it didn't just push the hair around. What about rugs that are on the wood/tile - does it go around them or over them?

Sorry for all the ? but we really do need to get a handle on the dog hair before DS1 figures out this crawling thing!

Haven't tried the roomba but thats a good idea. Would have to try it at night bcone of the pugs would chase it around during the day :) Love my pugs. My parents have 2, my sister has 1, and my in-laws have 1 as well.

Also love my Dyson but its heavy going up and down the stairs. I hear you with the time to vaccum it amazes me that I still haven't lost all my pregnancy weight with the amount of running around I do. We have hardwood floors so I do it now every other day and use a swifter in between. Roomba may be the way to go.
