My husband and I have been thinking of having another baby....maybe starting to try this summer. I'm on the fence about it. I had to take clomid to get pregnant and I ended up with twins which to me is the best surprise ever....but its been a lot of work and if we do it again I would just like to have one (especially financially). Has anyone here been considering a third child as well and has anyone had any luck getting pregnant on their own after using clomid once? I just was looking for an outside point of view......I really don't want to bring this up with my family....because I still don't know what I've decided on. Thanks

[IMG] I took clomid and got pregnant with the twins. We wanted just one more so we tried on our own and ended up with twins! [IMG]

We cried, we laughed and then we went on with it.

They are here now and it is hard. We take help where we find it. But we love these little ones with all of our hearts and would not change it for anything.

Good luck with what ever you decide!

I knew I wanted another when my twins were young. And I never used birth control after delivery. I didn't take anything to get pregnant with them though. It took me a little over two years to get pregnant this time.

I wish you the best of luck with your desicion.

I took clomid for 8 months. Nothing. No one could tell my husband or I why we weren't getting pregnant (undiagnosed infertility). All the tests came back saying there shouldn't be any reason why we were not getting pregnant. I charted my cycles for years! We did IVF and it worked first try. Twins. I haven't been on BC since the twins were born.
I have an internet friend who has both male & female factors. Did IVF with (something where you inject the sperm into the eggs) and transferred 3 embryos. Got twins. Then when the twins were about 9 months got pregnant on their own (found out when she was 4 months along) with a single. It can happen. [IMG] Good luck!

I didn't do clomid, but did have help from fertility drugs. One thing my RE said that it seemed once you have a baby or babies, your body kicks in to motion and tend to be more fertile. You may not need clomid this time around! I say go for it!

For me, I am happy to have two.
    No desire for a third.

Kids are alot of work. (I hope I don't sound selfish, but I've bit off as much as I can chew with twins!!)

We used clomid to get pregnant with our first over 3 years ago. I too had unexplained infertility, but luckily the clomid did the trick and
I did not have to go farther. I never went on any kind of birth control after Aaron was born, hoping to get pregnant quickly (well, after I got my first PPAF when he was 8 months). I did get pregnant when he was 10 months old on my own but had a miscarriage. I went on to have 3 other miscarriages and then went on clomid again for 2 months... I stopped taking the clomid because I was tired of the side-effects and the next month (unmedicated) we conceived the twins! Long story short, you can get pregnant again without the use of meds. Be prepared for it to take a little while, but don't be surprised when it doesn't!

Good luck with your decision. I personally would love to have another baby, but I'm getting up there in age and it takes way to long for me to get and stay pregnant it seems. Maybe we'll roll the dice though. Having twins is a ton of work, but the rewards are great, right?!

Ditto but let me add that I always talked about having 4.
On another note...I was told the same by my OB about being super fertile after having multiples, whether conceived naturally or through infertility. Good luck with your decision!

I'm on the fence about this too. Although, if we did decide to try again, it'd be a ways down the road....probably about 2 years.

I'd have to talk to my dr & do some tests to see what my hormones were doing at the time, but I think I wouldn't have a choice about taking Clomid again. I had to not only take it to help get pg, but also to prevent a miscarriage. (Long story.) Even if I got pg without help, my chances for miscarrying a VERY high. So, knowing that & knowing the Clomid increases chances for twins....I really don't know.

I don't know what we'd tell family, either. I know there's some that would be very excited & there's also some that would probably think we were out of our minds. I get the "Oh, you have a boy and a girl! You're done, then" ALL the time.

Ultimately, it's only you & your partner's decision. I know I was pretty freaked out when I found out we were having these twins....now I can't imagine it any other way. If we had twins again, it'd probably be the same. Scared out of my mind, and then impossible to imagine life without them.

I got preg 2nd month lowest dose with the twins, I was off BC for 4 months but not trying to get preg with Natalie, just to see if I would even get a cycle. It turns out I did and I got preg the first time trying with Natalie. The dr at the fertility clinic told me that it wouldn't happen when we were going through the chlomid thing to get preg with the boys. I guess she was wrong. All on our own and just one.

I didn't use clomid, but a good friend of mine did to get pregnant w/her son (he's 3 now). They weren't even trying and they got pregnant w/her daughter (who's 9 months now), so it does happen!

I'm not looking for a third... but FWIW, I've heard a lot of stories (here & elsewhere) about people having an oops pg after needing fertility treatments to get pg the first time. That's why I'll be on BCPs until DH gets snipped, even though we did IVF to get our twinkies.

We had tons of trouble with ttcing the second, ended up trying for 3 years and had an IVF that gave us the twins. I think you should start now if you want to have another and if within 6 months nothing happens, go to your OB for a referral to a Reproductive Endocrinologist. If it happens right away that will be great, if it takes a while you will be glad that you did went to someone so quickly. I wish we hadn't waited 2 years to finally see the RE but we did so our kids are over 4 years apart right now.

I have heard that if you've given birth to twins your chances of having another set is higher than average.

I know that I feel really fertile since I had my boys!! My hubby and I are being very careful cause we don't know if we want more -- and since I'm 40, I doubt it.

Cheers and good luck with the decision -- sometime you just gotta throw caution to the wind :)

To my surprise I got pregnant having sex just once after my clomid girls were born. (We had had sex in previous months, but with protection) They were four months old at the time. I had been so tired that I wasn't thinking of protection, so here comes Anastasia in late June of this year.

This is only true if your twins are fraternal. And I assume if you did fertility treatments the first time around, your chances of having twins spontaneously the next time are no higher than anyone else's. If your twins are identical, supposedly your odds are no different than anyone else's (and yes we all know of people with multiple sets of identical twins - but apparently that doesn't mess up the statistics enough to change that view).

Thanks for all the advice and stories ladies.......It has really helped me get some perspective on the whole situation. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do yet but I'll keep you informed.
