I am almost 29 weeks, and for the past two weeks I have had a pain in my "private area" -the outside part and only on one side (left). It hurts the most when I have been sitting or laying down for a while, and then stand up - feels like a searing or stabbing pain. It goes away entirely if I sit or lay down. I haven't gone to the doctor yet because it's on the outside, so I don't think it's going to effect the babies, but I'm just wondering if anyone else is experiencing anything similar.

I've heard it described before...'lightening crotch' was what it was called, ha.

Ligament pain or something similar to that.

    Hi,

I'm in my 31st week and I had this on and off since around 27 weeks. At times it was so painful just to get off the couch. I ask my doctor and he said it was normal. I did not have this when I was pregnant with my singleton so it was a little concerning. Once the babies moved, the pain went away.

    Good Luck.

I wonder if one of the babies is pressing against a nerve down there. My ds would crank his head against my cervix sometimes (I know, a little different)...but it would hurt so much I would have this uncontrollable yelp, lol!!! I hope you feel better soon!

Could just be pressure from the babies pulling on your ligaments and pelvic bones. This is what is happening to me. Especially when I've been laying down and have to get up to pee in the middle of the night I have to hold on to furniture to get to the bathroom as the pain is so searing. Unfortunately it's only gotten worse as they've gotten bigger, and the more activity/walking around I do the worse it gets as well :(

Also it could be a varicose vein "down there". I don't have these but have heard that it's fairly common and quite painful.

As it seems to go with everything in the twin pregnancy, it is probably "normal" and will go away when you deliver your babies!

I was also thinking varicose vein as i heard it's quite painful at times... i had a good friend that carried a singleton tell me this. Wouldn't hurt to put a call into the doctor just to check and give you peace of mind. Maybe it might be something that they have a solution for.

I have the joy of having varicose veins "down there" and the pain you describe sounds similar to what I feel. It is definitely the most painful when I go from sitting to standing so it forces me to stay seated as much as possible. This may seem kind of weird but I can see mine if use a mirror at the correct angle. I will warn you... It is horrifying to see it though!! But at least you will know that is what the pain is from. It is very strange because I don't have varicose veins anywhere else... just there. ugh.

As others have said... doctor told me it was normal and nothing to worry about... only thing to do to help it is to stay off your feet as much as possible.

    Good luck!!

I don't have varicose veins, but I also have a searing pain when I stand up, especially if I've been seated or lying down for a while. I think it is b/c Baby A is VERY low. And that's a lot of pressure down there! Sometimes when I have to stand up or walk for a while, I kind of feel like I have to do the "cowboy thing". All bowlegged and what not. LOL. I work with all guys so they think it's hysterical.

Oh yes, I have them as well and the pain is really bad when going from sitting to standing! Like PP said, try a mirror and yes, brace yourself b/c it can be super GROSS! I don't have them elsewhere either! Ain't pregnancy great?! I also had nerve pain with my first pregnancy so it could be either. Worth asking the dr about, but I feel like they'll tell you it's normal during pregnancy, but impt to ask! I'm sorry, it's no fun to have pain, esp down there!

Thanks so much for all the responses! It's nice to hear that this is normal. I chickened out yesterday about asking my doctor about this. I just couldn't get myself to say the words in front of my doctor and DH - ha ha. As long as it's not affecting the babies, I don't really care :)

I had a pain in my pubic area that felt like someone took a sledge hammer to the area. It didn't last the entire pg thank goodness. Symphis pubis.
