I'm sure this has been covered before, but is it possible to get your period and still be breast feeding? Mine came today (ironically after seeing the Dr yesterday). I'm still breastfeeding - so what is the deal?

    Can both be true?

    Thanks,
    Miriam

    sure,

I got mine at 3 months and am still breastfeeding my babies now.

your supply will dip during ovulation and just before or during your period... so be aware the babies may want to feed more around those days.

    Thanks for the replies.

With regard to supply, we aren't exclusive on the breast feeding, so anything I can give them we are happy to do so - especially since I want to quit every day. Then when I was close to quitting, I FREAKED out and upped my supply again.

I never realized this would be so complicated :)

Yes, it's definitely possible, even more likely when you aren't exclusively breastfeeding. I'm sorry! That's so annoying!

It all depends on your body and its level of a certain hormone. Some woman can miss one middle of the night feeding and get their period and others can go for years barely bf and not get their period. I am a six monther myself. I bf exclusively a singleton and the twins and with both I got it back at six months!

Both times before I have gotten my period at three months, even while exclusively bfing. I got pregnant with the twins while breastfeeding an 8 month old!

:wavey: Women get their period back at different times, some of the factors are:
    Family history
    hormone levels
    longer stretches between nursing sessions.

Some moms are exclusively breastfeed but find that it only takes their baby(s) one night of sleeping 6-8 hours without nursing for them to get there period back, even if the baby(s) never sleep that long with out nursing again!

The good news is that if you continue to breastfeed often, including one or more night session you may be able to stretch you periods to 35-40 days apart so you won't have to have all 12 periods in a year.

I agree that periods while breastfeeding totally suck! It's sooooooo not fair, we moms should get a break!
    Best wishes

I just got mine at 15 months, still breastfeeding 4-5 times a day. That was a nice long stretch! A contributing factor could have been that they just started sleeping thru the night about 2 months ago.

Does anyone know if it will be a regular 28 day cycle or if it will be longer stretches of time in between since I am still bfeeding?

My husband is constantly paranoid and excited at the possibility that we are pregnant again, and I know he will be watching for it!

Getting pregnant again now - I meet like 6-7 of the 10 criteria for having twins again! YIKES!

My cycle returned when the girls were 8 months, and I bf exclusively. I think for me, I had to go back to work, so I could only pump when I can.
