My doctor wants me to see a peri because I have had 2 high risk pregnancies and 3 itty bitty children. So I go at the end of the month.

I have never been to a peri before. What should I expect when I go? Is there anything I need to ask? I am always so nervous meeting new doctors. DH will be going with me-I just called him and told him he is not allowed to work that day (it's one of his rest days anyway).

We are thinking I am around 7 weeks right now. So due at the end of May. I have an u/s on November 6th so hopefully I will know more then-plus I see the peri on Oct 30th.

*Is there anyone in the Peoria, IL area?? That's where the peri is and I was just wondering if maybe one of you had been to him?? His name is Dr Egley. (sp?)

I only saw a peri a few times during my twin pregnancy. Once was for my 20 week level 2 u/s and then once I was on hospital bedrest, I saw him a few more times just for some growth scans, etc.

I think it's great that your OB is being so proactive this time around! Goodluck with your apt!

It's a different OB. The old one never seemed to listen to any of my concerns (or listen to me when I voiced that I thought I was having twins-hence the reason I didn't find out until I was 27 weeks).

This OB is really nice-he seems a little strange, but really nice. One of the first things he told me was that I (as in me-Ronda) am in charge of what happens. He is just there to help me through and make sure that me and the baby stay healthy. He said once he gets my records from my old office then we can start discussing things like VBAC and what not. I actually felt like I was a part of the whole thing-which is something I never felt at the old office. I always felt like they were in charge of everything and I was just along to cook the babies-I had no say in anything.

When I talked to the nurse today-here at the new office-she asked me like a million times if everything was going okay, and kept telling me that I can call anytime I have a concern about anything. I just thought that was awesome, because at my old office they just dismissed everything I said. So, I didn't call much when I probably should have.

Anyway, I started rambling and digressing--I am just so excited to have a 'good' doctor that cares about what I say.....finally.

That's awesome!!! I Hope you really like this new office you are going too! Sounds wonderful!!! I can't believe you never saw a peri with the twins...I thought that was pretty standard at least once if not more during the pregnancy. I hope things go smoothly for you this time around!

It is standard for my OB to send you to a peri when you are pregnant with twins. So, even though I had no complications, I saw the peri in addition to my ob. I believe I started seeing them in the second trimester. They just did more extensive ultrasounds. That's pretty much the only thing I did with them. So, I liked going because it gave me more opportunities to see the babies. Good luck. I would just take it as a preventative measure and not worry about it.

wow...what a difference!! can't believe with id. twins that you never saw a peri!!! I would suspect that if things seem fine that the perinatologist will only see you a handful of times. I always found that mine would work in tandem with the doctor and be pretty fair in evaluating whether or not I really needed to be seen. I think peris typically like to see patients once they've hit the viability stage and they can actually "do something" to help save a pg. KWIM? at least that's the impression I've gotten in my twin pg and in this pg. (I had subchorionic hematoma this time around...three m/c scares during the first trimester and saw the peri during the second trimester...)

I lucked out in that my OB actually splits his time with the Peri department. So I guess I really don't know the difference between a Peri and a regular OB. I did go to the Peri group for all my U/S's and NST's. And it was the group of Dr.'s in the Peri group that eventually made the decision that I should have my twins early (37 weeks) because baby B was falling too far behind in weight.

I think it's great that your Dr. is taking the precausions to make sure you get the best care!

we are actually going to see him on Sept 29th. I have been told good things about Egley recently...he can be a little scary but he really is like a big teddy bear.

I saw a peri when I was pregnant with the boys and it was in Peoria Il...ironic, huh?! I can't remember what the doctor's name was but I know they were affiliated with Saint Francis Hospital and my doctor at that time...Dr. Jody Kelly. From what I remember, five years ago, they did alot of measuring of the babies and etc. I don't ever remember feeling intimidated or uncomfortable.
