    Hi,

I have been reading all the posts on a need for a peri but I can't seem to figure how to find one. I don't want to ask my doctor because I feel she may feel offended that I am insinuating that she is not good enough but I want the best for my babies. I am 11 weeks and 3 days today. Is it too early to see one? I live in Charlotte North Carolina. Does anyone out there have a name or doctor's practice I can call to see one?

I am not from Charlotte or NC, but I do have a few things to add that might help. Not all twin pregnancies require a peri. Some OB's prefer it because of that added extra layer of support and monitoring. Other OBs are more than qualified to handle the entire pregnancy. In my case, my OB was qualified up until I started having issues with PTL that she was not having success in monitoring/treating. So she wanted me to start seeing a peri, and shortly thereafter handed over my care 100% to him.

If you do start seeing a peri, your OB will need to know. So honestly, I would discuss this up front. They should be working together somewhat, and having a team in place is important. If you do find that you need the care of a peri, for whatever reasons, you may also have to clear it with your insurance, since you will be having more appts and u/s, and not all insurance carriers will cover that if it is not 100% necessary. Lastly, I would contact your hospital to get a list of peri's. I found mine by contacting my insurance and finding one on my plan (the lady in our insurance office had used him as well, which she told me privately). In retrospect, I should have done a little more research, but I got lucky.

I believe that peris will only accept you with a referral from your OB. As the PP said, coordination with the OB is vital. The OB takes care of you. The peri takes care of the babies.

Has your Ob talked to you about doing the nuchal scan? They recommended it to me since the AFP test cannot be used for twins (except for spina bifida) and I'll be 33 when I deliver. You could ask your Ob about that. Also, the level II u/s. Both of these would be done with a specialist/perinatologist.

What Ob office do you go to in Charlotte? I go to Charlotte Ob/Gyn. My Nuchal Scan and my Level II were both done at the Women's Institute. All of the perinatologists there are great. Where do you plan to deliver??

Have you looked into joining the Charlotte Mom's of Multiples group? I just recently did this. The big sale is coming up in Aug.

Congrats on your twins. PM me if you'd like to keep in touch esp being in the same area and all.

I am also in Charlotte NC and I go to Eastover OBGYN University. In the begining I was also concerned because they made no mention of sending me to a peri. After a discussion with one of the OB's I felt a lot better. He said that he would send me for my 18-20week level 2 scan to CMC-The Womens Institute. This is done by a peri. He said at that time if the peri was concerned about anything, then at that time the peri could recomend me see him again. He also suggested that if I wanted to see one sooner, I should get the Nuchal screening done and this would be done at the Womens Institute. I chose to do this. I also am an IVF sucess story and after one MC and one failed attempt at IVF the reassurance of the Nuchal really made me feel better. I would definetly ask your OB her plans for you because you deserve to feel totally comfotable with your care. Also, seeing that you have had 3 MC may be reason also to see a peri. Like PP said if you have any further questions or simply just like a friend in Charlotte going through the same, you are welcome to PM me. Good Luck!
