The Peri has been watching the babies every two weeks since 14 weeks. Today he told us there's a 17% size difference between the babies. Baby A has always been a little smaller and had less fluid. He said they want me to come weekly now but that they really don't worry until there's a 20% difference. I feel like I just got past one hurdle with the thinning cervix and cerclage and now there's this. In my opinion, 17% is pretty close to 20%. I feel like I just can't catch a break here. Anyone here have a size difference like that? How did it work out?

I have no input yet. I'm being watched too, but thus far no sign of TTTS. I understand your concern, and you are in my thoughts.

we have been watched for since 26 weeks for growth discordance, so far everything is looking good...are they doing NSTs on you? My dr. has me doing NSTs twice a week and growth ultrasounds every other week to keep an eye on it. We are now 32 weeks and still looking good. Dr. said that groth difference is only 1 aspect of TTTS and as long as everything else looks good they just keep an eye on it. Good luck, I know how scary it is.

The peri did not say anything about doing an NST but said they would likely do blood flow studies.

At 22 weeks my girls had a 23 % growth difference and Twin A had twice as much fluid as Twin B. My doctor took me out of work, put me on modified bedrest and a high protein diet. Within 3 weeks the girls only had 3 % growth difference and their fluid levels looked good. We were told it looked like the beginnings of TTTS and I was really worried. I guess the best advice I can give you is do what you doctor says, it seems to have worked for us so far. I know it is so scary, I cried everyday until our last U/S, but know it could work itself out.

I don't remember what % different were my girls but they were 3 weeks different in size at 24 weeks. The reason was both girls umbilical cords were attatched in the wrong place and Jessy only had 2 vessels in her cord. This will be something they will look at when they do the flow study. They make sure that the blood is flowing properly in the cords. Jessy's didn't it flowed out okay but it didn't always flow in properly. We were watched twice a week and delivered early to prevent stillbirth. If you have any questions just ask

It's true that growth disconcordance is only one aspect of TTTS. Questions you need to ask are: What are the fluid levels? (TTTS diagnosed at 2 cm or less for donor and 8 cm for recip.), are both bladders visible? Are dopplers okay? Is there any sign of thickening around the heart/hearts? You'll notice in my siggy that I lost a set of twins to TTTS, but please don't let that scare you, because my OB was very ignorant and I did not recieve proper care. This time my girls at one point supposedly had a size difference of 18%, but since then they've been closer in size. The ultrasound estimates CAN be somewhat off. You can find lots of helpful information on the Health Issues Forum or at tttsfoundation.org. By the way, at 20 weeks the babies are too small to do NSTs. The best thing you can do right now is try to get some horizontal rest and SIP on about 3 Boosts (high protein kind) or Ensures per day. Hope things start to get better for you! (((Hugs)))
