Yesterday at Walmart I got 3 (count them-3!) negative comments about my twins. I was ready to blast the next person who dared to act like my babies are anything less than wonderful. Here they are, in no particular order:

1.) We were coming in the door, and a couple was walking out, the guy looks at the boys, then looks at us, shakes his head in disgust and says "Oh God, NO NO NO! I hope that never happens to me".

2.) In sporting goods a guy walks up to us and says, "Wow, twin boys! You got trouble ahead of you." Then proceeded to tell us about his awful twin cousins who were just the worst ever, always in trouble, etc. And ended with "I always prayed I wouldn't have twins", insert shudder here. To which I responded-"Yes, well, good parenting makes all the difference"

3.) Another couple spotted us, and the woman says "If that ever happens to us, just shoot me"

Yeah, they just don't know what they are missing. Fortunately, just as I was ready to explode, an older gentleman looks over and sees us. He breaks out in a huge grin and gives my husband the thumbs up. He comes over and says "Beautiful! I have twin boys, too. Best thing ever!"

So, all's well that ends well.

I'll hope you never understand the joy of twins too!

    Awesome reply!

    Tell me when.

i get the same stuff all the time with my girls and i just kind of laugh because i realize that my girls arent so difficult - actually quite easy after 3 mos and once i got used to crying - and i think, wow, you are really such a wuss - i mean what are these people so freaked out about - was one baby soooo difficult. its kinda funny and makes me feel a bit badass.

ese - me too, thinking i'm a badass that is! try two and then tell me what no sleep really feels like (i hope a triplet mama doesn't read this. she could tell me a thing or two about being tired!)

wow! I'm just amazed! We have never gotten anything negative. The only thing that is said often, to us, is the ole "two for the price of one"...I just wish they were that inexpensive..lol

    We always get great comments.

I'm sorry you ran into so many negative comments =(

I've had that happen to me before. I have twin girls. And every time someone says something like that I just tell them that god only gives twins to parents that can handle them.

Glad to hear that the comments decrease as they get older. I've had two different incidents in the last 4 days where someone said "I'd never want twins" while I was in earshot with my girls. I just don't get it -- why be so rude?

    I hear you!
Recently I was with my DD and boys at Barnes and Nobles. A mom of a toddler boy first sees my daughter and the double stroller and says "You must be busy", then she realizes there are two infants in the stroller and asks if they are twins. She then says "I'm tired just looking at you!" I was not in the mood for this type of comments, so in both cases I just looked at her without any real reaction, except maybe some surprise. Then her husband said: "they are beautiful". This time I gave him a wide smile, and thanked him. Later, before they left, the dad stopped again to admire my boys, and repeated: You have beautiful boys". He made my day :) !
I hope she got the lesson. So I think that now I will just ignore people's negative comments. They should be the one feeling bad for being so rude, not us
