I swear I am the most inept mom out there!
My family just got done with a nasty 24 hour bug...My DD didnt get it for some reason, but my DS did on Xmas...well its Sunday, and when we feed him formula, it goes right through him.

I called the doctor and she said to give pedialyte in small amounts to start, and to increase it as the day goes on as he tolerates it...I didnt know that, I had just been giving him 4 oz or so when I felt he needed it.
So anyway, she said wait 8 hours before re introducing solids or formula...
Well that would have been 8pm and he is in bed by 7.

So now come tomorrow, what do I do? Do I start introducing his formula again, but maybe do 3 oz at a time, maybe every 1.5 hours instead of 6oz every 3 hours?
Do I continue with the pedialyte, and how much? Am I stupid? I cant find too much on the internet.

I dont feel so bright after feeding my puking/diarrhea'ing son formula AND pedialyte not realizing the formula was going right through him.Agh.

Don't be so hard on yourself . It sounds like you're doing a great job! It's a learning process and each baby is different. Yes, try the formula in small amounts/increments tomorrow and see how it goes.

 Aww, it's never fun to have a sick baby! You are doing a great job, so don't feel bad! I say start tomorrow with whichever you want...formula or pedialyte...but start with small amounts. I hope all is well in the morning!

When we had this issue, we were told to alternate Pedialyte and then formula. If they kept the Pedialyte down to try a small amount of formula the next time. And if they kept that down, still do some more Pedialyte and then formula again the next time for 24 hours and then go back to all formula if there has been no vomiting. Sounds like you are doing a great job.

Rachel's suggestion sounds good to me :good: Hang in there, having a sick baby is no fun

ha! we must be living parallel lives! our family just went through the same thing starting christmas day - all 4 of us! and we had to fly in the midst of it - luckily it was during the window when i was recovering but before my husband started. its confusing - dont be hard on yourself. one of my girls had some lingering diarrhea and i kept giving her milk - for days! it finally hit my when my second started puking and i cut everyone off dairy and stuck with pedialyte and BRAT
    BANANNA
    RICE - in any form
    APPLESAUCE
    TOAST
things improved alot overnight. watch how much volume you give when the vomiting is occuring. i overdid it because she was so thirsty and she puked it all up within 10 minutes. I kept it to a few sips every 10 min or so and she tolerated it much better.
ahh the joys of parenting. at least its a 24hr bug.

If the vomiting is over but he still has diarrhea, I would switch to the lactose free formula of the same brand you are already using. After a stomach bug, some kids are very sensitive to the lactose in milk and it will continue to cause diarrhea for quite a while. If you allow the stomach/intestines to rest for a few days, it seems to help.

I would syringe feed him some pedialyte in the am, about 1oz. if he keeps that down then about 15mins later you could try about 1oz of formula, if he keep that down then about 30mins later do another oz of pedialyte, then 30mins later do another oz of formula. If an oz stays down every 30 mins then I would go to 3oz's every 3hrs for about 1/2 the day then go back to normal feedings.
