One of our girls Ashley has been eating less and less in the last three days and today Chloe started eating less today too. We rung the pedi who says babies can get bored drinking milk (I already reminded him they are both breastfed, fed pumped milk + formula) and that they want to taste something different and this is why the girls are eating less.

Does this sound right to the other mums here? Do babies get bored with drinking milk?

We have in fact started rice cereal a week ago. One meal a day after a bottle. And its not a reflux thing, the girls are just pushing the bottles/breast away and crying if we try to force on to them.

My opinion is that is absurd! They eat in spurts!

Thats why I posted here, I didn't feel like he's given us a satisfactory answer! They are eating around 10 ozs a day now instead of 20 oz. Should I be worried?

I agree with Jackie! Also, could they be teething?

They don't drool very much which I thought was a sign of teething? They don't have a fever eitehr.

are they sleeping/laying ok while flat? could be pressure in their ears if they have an ear infection...which doesn't necessarily come with fever...

Mine were refusing to eat because of reflux around that age, they don't have to be spitting up to have reflux. Just a thought. [IMG]

One of my dds goes through bottle strikes now and again. I think it is related to teething. Try to give her smaller, more frequent bottles. Good luck.

IMO your ped is a dolt. I've never heard of babies getting tired of milk, especially at only 4 months old. Some of the things these peds say are outrageous. [IMG]

You mentioned you are breastfeeding/pumping. Perhaps they are averse to something you have eaten recently. Otherwise I agree with the PPs about the strike or teething, though I never experienced either with my girls. Maybe drop the cereal and see if they up their milk intake. GL

Cereal absolutely killed my boys' appetites. I had to be very careful not to give them too much or they'd skip feedings like crazy and then wake at night to try to make it up.

As for being bored with milk, that's pure ignorance. Breastmilk changes in flavor with what you eat. They already get a nice variety from it even if you gave nothing else.

Well Ashley started eating normally (healthy appetite) yesterday (continuing to today) but yesterday Chloe started only eating small amounts and refusing more!!

Ashley IS a reflux baby and is on losec for it. (Switched from zantac) and seemed to be thriving.

I think my pedi is insane to say that babies are bored with food. Especially if they are getting breastmilk AND formula, how much variety can I give them?

The pedi even tested Ashley's urine, nothing found. I guess this is what it's like to be a first time Mum, we just worry and worry....

Thanks everyone, I was really most curious why my pedi said that about the boredom, I didn't think it was possible!

I always used the term that mine were 'bored with their milk' when they wouldn't drink it, so I can see what your pedi means. Mine did began drinking less when I started solids, but that is normal they are suppose to.
