See, I thought the whole reason to hold off was because if they DID have a reaction, it is much worse to have it as a baby.

Who knows what else we're doing now that our grandchildren will laugh at us about and do differently with their own children! We haven't had any peanut allergies at our house, but I'd be interested in knowing what moms/dads with allergic kids think of this.

If there was a peanut allergy somewhere on either side of the family I think I would be pretty careful about giving my baby peanuts, regardless of what that article says. But since there are zero food allergies on either side of our family we weren't as worried about it as others might be.

FYI - DH gave Amelia peanut butter one day before I was even giving them table food. I was a little annoyed when he told me but she's his child too, and she was fine. Now I put it on their waffles and toast.

I know, things are constantly changing... (not that's necessarily bad, I mean we are constantly learning more) I'm 25 and when I was a baby my mom was told to NEVER put me on my back to sleep, stomach sleeping was much safer because the baby wouldn't choke if she spit up or something. But now we know it's best to put a baby on her back to sleep.

I had always heard the same about peanuts and other "high allergy" foods as well... hold off until one year. I had also heard to hold off on peanut butter because it poses a choking hazard. Interesting article either way, thanks. :)

My ODD has a peanut allergy, accidently discovered when she had a bite of peanut butter cookie at 1 year old, and we ended up with an ambulance ride to the ER! We have no history on either side of the family, so not sure where it came from. Very interesting theory though! I guess after seeing a severe reaction, I probably wouldn't give a 4-6 month old peanut butter, maybe 9 months when they are bigger, but it is a scary thing especially out of the blue! Too bad the twins just had their WBV or I would have asked their ped about it!! And I'll add my standard $.02 on these allergy discussions- be sure to have some childrens benadryl on hand in case of any allergic reactions, especially when trying new foods!
