It's a very personal decision, and one most folks make with their ped.

We introduced it with no problems at 13 months, after getting the go-ahead from the ped b/c there were no food allergies of ANY kind in either family.

However, I know of other TS members who had the same lack-of-allergy history who's DD had a severe reaction around 18m.

Our ped told us the guideline is officially THREE years -- but then his nurse told me that if we hadn't had any food sensitivities yet, after 18 months or so was OK. A lot of people do it with no problems after 12 months, but you have to decide what level of risk you're comfortable with.

I wound up letting A&S have foods with nuts in them after 18 months or so, just because it was such a pain to avoid them. They don't seem to like PB all that much, but they didn't have any problem with nuts in general.

we did it around 12 months...no reactions, but also no history of them, so we were not too concerned. However, you do still have to be prepared for that.

My current pedi does not let you start nuts till 3. With that said my girls had nuts at 26 months.

Our pedi says peanut butter after 2 yrs, nuts after 3. Oldest DD had peanut butter about 20 months, though... with no issues.

We were told after age 2, and we have no family history of allergies.

With my oldest DD we did it at 15 months, same ped., but he must be getting a little more cautious in his old age due to all the allergies.

You will hear so many different answers, you really need to check with your ped about this.

Our pediatirican told us to wait until 12 months since there was no allergy history. I think I introduced for the furst time around 13 months and it was with those Ritz/ peanut butter little round bite size crackers. We had no issues.

our ped also said 12 months because of the no allergies and we introduced it around 13 months and had no issues - and they had peanuts around 15 mos or so and were ok with those also...

This would make a good poll. Our pedi is very conservative in most ways, but he said to go ahead with PB at age one, and it was shortly after that that we started. No problems (never have been in our families either).

We eat A LOT of PB around here, almost every day (we very rarely eat meat and PB is decent protein). I'm not sure how I'd get along without it! ;)

thank you for the feed back
I had checked with our Doctor and he said it should be ok after a year with no famliy history.
But I had a different Doctor with our oldest who I believe told us to wait until 2
so I just wanted to see what everyone else had been told

    thanks again

I use sunflower butter instead - great taste, same consistency and no real allergy issues

We are waiting until age 3 as well on the advice of our pedi. We are giving them Soynut butter in the meantime and they love it.

We are waiting until 3. Our pedi says 1 or 2 is OK if you have no history of allergies, but that at least 3 is really preferred. My understanding is that the theory behind delayed introduction is to help prevent other allergies down the road, as older children or even as adults. I've never had any kind of allergies whatsoever, but at age 29 I developed an allergy to crabs. It's been a total PITA, and my friends with nnut & peanut allergies have an even more difficult time with it since there are nut/peanut products in soooooo many things! Because I have the food allergy, my husband has asthma, both the girls have eczema, and Natalie has at least an asthma-like diagnosis, I figured it was probably best to postpone. I figure if delaying until 3+ makes it less likely that they'll develop an lifelong adult-onset allergy, then it's worth it. Even though I love peanut butter and I think it would be such an easy food for them!

But really, it's a totally personal solution and I don't think there is one correct answer.

We were told 2, but we were also advised not to do eggs until age 2.

Those are two things I'd like to introduce because of the protein, so I hate waiting for that. Plus, I love both of those things and I feel bad if I eat them in front of the babies.

I introduced it at 12 months with no problem but, at a recent CPR class the instructor told us that it could pose a chocking hazard for kids under three. She said to be sure to spread it thin and to never allow them to lick PB off a spoon. I hadn't thought about it but it makes sense. She said that if a child choked on a glop of the stuff it would be lethal because the Heimlich wouldn't dislodge it.
