For any of you who have a nanny live in your home,
How much would you pay for 4.5 month old twins and what duties would you have the nanny be responsible for at that rate?
Same question if they live out?

Well, i have in home child care 3 days a week. my MIL does mondays, so we don't have to pay her. But to give you an idea, the Nanny who comes to my house 2 days per week, from 7:15 am to 6:00 pm is payed $225 per week. It's so expensive, and that was actually a deal!

Edited to add: She takes care of the girls but does not do any laundry or anything else like that.

I paid my live out nanny $400/week cash, she did all baby-related duties including their laundry. For my area, that was on the low end.

I now pay our nanny (who is also DH'd niece) $275/week. She was less experienced, but family. And she's making more doing this than she did working at the mall, and she doesn't have night and weekend hours to deal with. But $275 is super cheap - she gets a raise at the beginning of next month. She also does all baby-related duties, including laundry.

We have an Au Pair, which is a person from another country that comes and lives in your home. She is fantastic! She lives in out home and is required to take so many hours of classes so she can stay here. Anyway, the details are, you contact an agency like Au Pair Care or Au Pair America and they will guide you through the process of finding a person to come live with you and help you with your children. We pay ours a little extra each week because she is what they call and "Elite" au apair because she has extra education and time working with children. She is actually a special education teacher in Brazil. Her salary is $200 per week. The going rate for a standard au pair is around $175/wk. There are fees associated with going through an agency, but there are safeguards as well. She is CPR and first aid certified, she is wonderful with the children, she loves what she is doing, she speaks great/perfect english and she is like a family member to us. Yes, there are bad au pair stories out there, but an agency will help you find the right person for your family and rematch you if necessary. Can you tell I have loved the experience? You certainly can't beat the price for full time (45hrs/wk) child care. Good luck exploring your options!

We paid our night nanny $12/hr and she did all the laundry, bottles and cleaned the kitchen.

We pay our live out nanny $11 an hour. She does the babys' laundry and light housekeeping (dusting, vaccuuming). Worth every penny not to have to take them to daycare.

I work full-time and we have a live-out nanny instead of daycare. We pay a flat rate of $450 a week up for up to 42 hours. If she's ever needed beyond 42 hours, she gets $15/hour over 42 hours. The going rate seems to be $12-16 an hour in most places (can be much higher in major metropolitan areas). Our nanny only does childcare and baby-related cleaning (like their laundry, running the dishwasher, cleaning up their toys). We wanted her focused 100% on the babies, not worrying about cleaning the house. Even though it's not required, she often runs the vaccuum or cleans up a bit when the boys are napping.
