How much an hour would you pay for a mother's helper? I am thinking of getting a person 13-16 in age to come play with my twins while I work in the house. They wouldn't clean or prep food, just entertain. I was hoping $5.00 an hour. What do you think? I want someone 4 hours a day 5 days a week during the summer.

I have a 14-year-old girl that comes ocassionally (not 5 days a week) with me to run errands or take care of the kids while I am doing other things around the house and I pay her $7 per hour. That seemed to be the going rate in our area. But I think $5 might be fair if that is the going rate in your area.

My friend just told me she pays her 15-y.o. mother's helper $8/hour. She has two kids, but not twins - 3 y.o. and 9 months old. We're in the NYC suburbs, so probably you could get away with less elsewhere.

I pay mine (she is 15) $5 an hour. That is the going rate in our neighborhood for someone that young.

  5. We pay our babysitter around $7 per hour. But for someone that young, it may be quite appropriate for him or her.
