I always feed them myself when they eat any kind of pasta or mac N cheese (the shells), but should I just let them go at it with the own fingers? they do not know how to use utensils yet...

Does anyone let them go at any pasta's by themselves?

I want to get away from feeding them certain foods myself and just let them eat at it and pasta is one of them, what are your opinions...thanks...

We do it as a fingerfood and they get along great. I tried them with a Yoghurt and spoon not long ago and omg they seem alooooong way off grasping it.

We let ours do it with their fingers before they could use utensils. They are better at forks now, not perfect. I would save messy stuff for nights I was certain they would get a bath! Also, sometimes I just went really light on sauce, and still do go light on spaghetti sauce. Good Luck!

yep... we do most everything as finger foods. they have been able to feed themselves from spoons for a long time... but still don't know how to load the spoons...I have started giving forks, but only in the last month or so (19+mo) but they still don't quite get it...

    good luck.

My guys don't like mac-n-cheese (I KNOW, what kid doesn't like mac-n-cheese?!?! ) but they do like spaghetti, especially Jack. I just cut up the long strands and plop it on their trays. It makes a huge mess, but they enjoy it. As Debbie has suggested, you can go light on the sauce and it won't be quite as bad.

I think pasta is going to be messy for a LOOOONG time....

We do the same as the other posters, we just put it on their trays. I do however rinse off the pasta if there is too much sauce. I've also been known to wash off a marinara sauce and sprinkle cheese on it and throw it in the microwave to melt it. It makes it a lot easier for them to pick up. I started doing it because mine needed the fat from the cheese but it worked great on mess too. Good luck!

Yes, we do pasta as a finger food, too. Mine like Mac 'N Cheese and it isn't too messy, especially if you overcook the pasta a bit. It seems to absorb the cheese sauce well.

thanks everyone for your encouraging posts....i tried it with the mac N cheese last night, and it went really well. Sometimes i get very tired feeding them myself, so figured why can i not give them pasta as finger food, i hate the mess clean up but it's worth it not having to go back and forth feeding them...LOL...thanks again for all your posts and suggestions.... :)

:woo: I am glad it went well! I used pasta as a finger food and my kids love it, especially made with cheese and butter...they are just starting to develop a taste for tomato sauce (or gravy as my DH would call it)...

That's great! So glad it went well! :clapping: A friend of mine who has a 6 YO and a 3 YO once told me that "spaghetti night is bath night". Words to live by! ;)

Haha, when I lived down South they always called meat sauce "gravy". :)
