Passing too much gas?

My twins are very gassy! All I have read says newborns are gassy but I don't know how much is too much and if the formula they are on (hospital had them on Similac Advance Shield from the start) is causing the problem? I am breastfeeding and doing formula both.

Have only had one spell of gas/fussiness/screaming fit and Mylicon and soothing fixed it. But they fart (*sorry*) all the time and one twin burps really well (girl); the other one (boy) not as well. I've been giving him Mylicon drops to help and I think it has. I've also done a trial of no breast milk to see for 24 hours to see if it's something i've eaten that is bothering him.

Most of the postings i've read are about trouble with infants passing gas. This doesn't seem to be the problem, though. But i'm worried about how much gas they are producing! My pediatrician had suggested maybe switching them to Similac Sensitive.

    Any input?

    Much appreciated!!

I wish I had some advice, but all I can do is sympathize with you. My twins are SOOO gassy! They're on Good Start "Protect Plus" (in the green can) so I have no idea! Did the no-breastmilk for 24 hours do anything for them??

If it's not bothering them, then I wouldnt worry about it. If it is, then I would call the Ped and see if they recommend a formula change. Formula changed can take up to 2 weeks to see a difference. GL!

He seems better since we've done the 24 hrs of Mylicon and no breast milk. Gosh, it just kills me to think my breast milk might be a problem for him! I might try introducing him to it again tomorrow and see how he tolerates it. She does just fine with it though. Thanks for the commiserating - at least i'm not alone! :)

Maybe you can try cutting out dairy and see if that helps. He might have an allergy and if you cut that out he might be fine to nurse.

Sometimes if you miss a burp after feeding that gas will get down lower in the intestine and that's when it hurts. Just another thing to consider. :) Non-painful gas doesn't really matter so I wouldn't worry about it unless it is hurting them.
