Like Tums, Rollaids, and trying everything under the sun to help!!! <_< Im now trying Papaya Enzyme, but Im wondering how long until I can get some relief???? I only started taking it today and Im only taking the recomeneded doseage (4 tablets) but here it is 3am and I am up with HEARTBURN again! lol..Any info would be great! Thanks ladies, you all have been a lifesaver this pregnancy!

I'm so sorry!! I had heartburn so bad with my youngest DD that I swore I would NEVER do this pregnancy thing again. :shok: Tums/Rolaids never did anything for me. I took ranitidine OTC. They come in 75mg tabs so I took two=150mg. Doc said it's o.k. but I'd talk to yours to see if it's o.k. with him. I only gained 11 lbs. because I was so scared to eat anything. He said he would rather me take the meds than have a skinny sickly baby cause I couldn't eat. The first time I had heartburn I thought I was dying. I'd never had it before and thought people were just whiny when they said they had it. There's a difference between that greasy yucky feeling you get in your throat and heartburn. I think a lot of people who just complain while rubbing their throats have a little reflux. When I had heartburn, I was doubled over in pain, couldn't sleep, couldn't breathe, hot, sweaty MISERABLE! See if doc will let you try the ranitidine, it worked for me! :D

Papaya Enzyme have worked for me in the past, but not when I was pregnant. It just wasnt enough. I had to cave and get something from my doc. On a good day I have gur, so pregnant and heartburn... I understand. I have a friend who uses lemon juice, it either works or makes it worse. For me, it made it worse, but she lives by it.

I was miserable with acid reflux that lasted ALL DAY LONG. I tried the OTC Zantac at 75 mg and it worked ok for a while, but then lost it's affect. My doc put me on 20mg Nexium and it has changed my life. I was so hesitant to take "drugs" but my girls are doing great and I am able to eat anything with no side effects. Seriously, last night I had 2 tacos, a mexi-melt and nachos with cheese from Taco Bell and then went right back to bed with NO reflux. (yeah, had a serious spicy craving).

I know it's hard to bite the bullet, but the relief is soooo worth it!

ETA: I take it at night because my morning sickness had re-appeared and now I'm totally fine.

I take 150mg Zantac (ranitidine) twice a day from my dr. I wouldn't be able to eat or lay down or even drink water without it. Sometimes I still have a eat tums at night but the medicine helps A LOT. Esp cause a couple of other medications I'm on for contractions and pain make it worse.

It's funny ... with the twins, I had terrible heartburn. Like you, I had never had it before and it was terrible, bubbling up acid in your throat, burning ... ugh! I tried every OTC thing I could find, and I asked my doc for some RX and SHE WOULDN'T GIVE ME ONE. Told me to try Maalox and other coating-stuff. I was so mad! Eventually I found something that kind of helped, a Walgreens generic version of something I can't remember. This time the heartburn is bad but not as bad as with the twins, and without even asking for something, my new doc wrote me an RX for Zantac 150mg tabs. So you might want to try for those.
