I'm wondering if this is a common problem and if so, how do you get your LO's to wear pants? For their birthday they received cute 2 piece outfits for the winter in 12 month size and the shirts fit but the pants fall right off. I tried putting the shirts with some 9 month size jeans that I have, but the jeans are too short but still too big in the waist. I've just been putting them in a few one piece outfits that I have every day b/c the one pieces fit them better. I hate that I have so many cute outfits that are just collecting dust b/c of the pants but next year they will be too short.

    Anyone have a solution?

PS - I wish I had the same too skinny for all my clothes with no hips or booty problem. LOL.

ETA - don't laugh at this, could I take their pants to a tailor? I don't know if it would be worth it money-wise, has anyone done that?

My 5 yr old ds is just like this. Everyone knows that buys clothes for him that he needs adjustable pants. Or I have to fold the waist down. He is in a size 6 pants but can wear a size 5 or less waist. So now when the grandparents or aunts buy him anything they always go straight for adjustable waists.

I have the same exact problem ... Hailey is super tall, so if I go down a size in pants, they are way too short, which is no good in the winter. I've had better luck with Children's Place pants ... but I ALWAYS buy ones that are just elastic waist ... nothing with a zipper/button combo ... Hailey has 12 months jeans that STILL don't fit... and she is wearing 24 months or 2 T shirts (for the length).

I know, if only I had such concerns in my own life ... hehe.

same issue here - I agree with Erica CP pants run on the small-ish size - I can actually get her 24 mo pants that don't fall off!!

Also too Garanimals (from WM) are longer in the smaller sizes and they actually have leggings that I get for DD

Adjustable waist pants are our friends! I don't think they start until size 18M-2T though. I find them at TCP, Old Navy, and Target. For anything that does not have a non-adjustable waist, I have to have my MIL take them in.

My DD's always grow out of the length long before they even grow into the waist.

I always look for adjustable waist pants first. If that is not availible, then I will use Diaper pins in the sides to bring the clothes in (instead of taking them to the tailor) That way as they grow, I can easily let the clothes out. Primaryily I use this methos on Jersey knit skirts that my daughter wears for uniform. The jersey knit clothes do not seem to come with adjustable waists.

I have never had a diaper pin come undone, and they are much cheaper than a tailor.

Someone else on the board mentioned the Myself Belts, and I am looking to get one of those for my nephew.

My DD has a few adjustable pants that came from walmart but shes 3. (A pp mentioned that they may not come in sizes less than 18 months, so Im not sure if thats an option)

For my 2 yr DS I just fold them over once and that makes the waist tighter.. I've tried this with twin DD and since she's a girl and her shirts are a little smaller, you can tell they are rolled. For some reason even though her pants are big, they wont actually fall off her bottom, so I dont bother rolling them anymore. (Some of DS pants would fall around his ankles whiles he's walking/running if I didnt do something, and he's the bigger of the two. I guess its just the way they make boys pants. lol)

It only ges worse as they get older. I can not find tights for my 30 pound and almost 40 inches girl Forget pants. If they fit in the wast way to short, whe was wearing 18 month jeans as capris. It is driing me crazy (sorry to vent in your post)

I get adjustable waist pants as much as I can. I also have a sewing machine that I keep threaded with invisible thread. I make little tucks into the waistband. I usually make several tucks and pull them out one at a time as they grow. Sometimes rolling the waistband over helps too.

You need to get Old Navy and Children's place LEGGINGS and also the kind that adjust in the waist - save your life!!!

The cute outfits could be altered (safety pins?) a little so they could wear them!

My girls have the same problem. They are tall, but super skinny. I always buy their jeans at old navy or the children's place because they have the elastic adjusters at the waist. They are the only jeans that I have found that will stay on my girls because of the adjusters.

Same problem here; and sometimes even the adjustable waists are too big! Got 2 pair for dd on Black Friday from Old Navy, thinking I could just cinch up the waist. Got the waist adjusted, the length is right, but the butt/crotch area was WAY too big!!

The pair she has that fits the best are just Cherokee......I think that's from Target? And I never buy things in sets anymore; can almost guarantee they won't fit at the same time.

This may sound funny but I was the same way as a child (no struggles as an adult though :() and my mom used to sew velcro into the tops of my pants and the bottoms of my shirts. She said it was a lifesaver.

Mine are also small waisted so I just roll the waists up once and that seems to help.

I have this problem with Maia, she is a beanpole, she's 90% for height and 3% for weight so they are either too wide or too short!!

I have found jeans at Target that have adjustable elastics inside to tighten the waste. She can wear 18mo for the length and I can tighten the inside so they dont fall off her. Check them out if you have a Target near you, I think the brand is Cherokee.

We have this problem with one of ours.

I had some huge cheap cotton underwear that I'd bought before the c-section. I cut out the top elastic (still covered in cotton) and sewed it to the inside of her jeans - making it just the right size so that she could pull on or off the jeans easily but so that they also stayed up when they were on. The sewing was really simple, just one short vertical line in the front, back and two sides of the jeans. It took about 10 minutes in all.

I've had ALL of my boys' pants hemmed. ALL OF THEM! It stinks to pay for it but what can ya do. I have the opposite problem tho (well, sorta opposite) they're big in the belly but short! They wear 18 in waist but 12 in length.

I posted a similar topic recently because we have the same problem. Trying to find belts that are "potty training friendly" is not too easy. :( We are considering the Myself Belts, too. In the meantime, my mom sews a piece of elastic to the back of their pants. It's a simple procedure and it works! It's also convenient because it is not permanent and can easily be removed if needed.

Here's what I do with my beanpoles. (>97% height, 10-15% weight for both, but I'm 6 foot tall, what did I expect! Basically need 2T for length but 9 or 12 month for waist.)

Things that have elastic or just fabric waists, I grab my exacto knife. I make two vertical slits on the inside of the pant waist, in the front, basically on each side of where their belly button would be. Then I grab some craft ribbon (in the yarn section at JoAnns), cut about 18 inches of it. Attach a safety pin to the ribbon, insert the closed safety pin in one of the exacto holes, then thread it all the way through the waistband and <pop> out the other hole. You have just created a drawstring. Sure it kills resale value, but I don't really have any choice.

For things that aren't elastic waists, I usually avoid.

I wish I knew how to sew! My DH sews, I'll have to ask him to help.

That sounds like a good idea too. I'm glad that so many other people have the same problem, thanks for all the replies.
