So both girls seem to be straining and having painful bowel movements. Since it's both of them, it has to be something in their diets. They are down to 3 bottles a day and 3 meals. They had a stomach virus last week so I was giving them applesauce and bananas for a few days, but that is over.

Any suggestions on how I can....umm.....'get things moving'??? I swear this problem accounts for about 90% of the crying in our house.

I did not know this but banannas can constipate...my dd ate them like a little monkey and she was always having pooping issues and my doctor asked what she liked to eat and said there is your problem.
You could give them water and this should help-
I hope your kiddos feel better soon!!!

Yeah we found out how constipating bananas are last week. Poor pumpkins. We gave them some prunes (baby food stage 2) and it got things moving along within the day. Also, we pushed the water. They have their sippies of water at all times now, but we'd physically give them drinks all throughout the day. GL!

Bananas and applesauce will constipate a baby. I'd try some prunes and some water!

You can give them some pear juice diluted with water in a sippee or bottle. We did 1/2 ounce juice to 4 ounces of water and it worked pretty well.

Bananas and applesauce are both binding. Prunes and pears should help, either solid or juice.

    Good luck!

For awhile, we had to do 50/50 water/juice... but this helped a lot! Also, prunes and pears for solid food.

    Good luck!

Ditto the prunes or pears. You could also try oatmeal.

Anya has been chronically constipated for the last month. I have tried giving extra water during the day and even Prune or Pear Juice. The only thing that works for her is a tsp of Karo syrup in her bottle. I would try 1 tsp in one bottle and see how that goes. I know people who use it religiously but I am wary of doing that. I have tried putting it in more than one bottle during the day, because she still wasn't going.

    It usually helps.
