Just this week I've started to get constant acid reflux. Has anyone else experienced this? What are some things I can do to help it during my pregnancy? I've NEVER had it before in my life!

I've had it from the moment I got pregnant and also had it with my last pregnancy. It is so bad...I take Zantac 75 and liquid Mylanta works great too. One trick that I recently discovered that I was shocked that actually made a difference is chewing gum. When I chew gum it tends to not be so bad. I just had a 2 hour long ultrasound this morning (for growth and echocardiograms) and gum was the only thing that go tme through it.

vanilla ice cream and/or whole milk with just about every bite of food from sun-up to sundown is what worked best for me... that and eating small meals. I remember just about crying that christmas b/c I could hardly eat anything.

TUMS TUMS TUMS!! Also, eating less at a time and more frequently. Just make sure your stomach is never empty or over filled. You have multiple babies pushing up on your stomach and they won't let you put too much in your tummy without pushing some of it back up. Keep something starchy nearby like crackers to keep the acid down.

I found for me anything acidic sets me off like tomatoes, onions, garlic, peppers, pickles, etc. So I can't eat them anymore, and I have to limit chocolate :(

150 mg Zantac twice a day(yes its safe!) and Gaviscon was the only thing that got me through my pregnancy...Tums was basically like chewing lifesavers - they did NOTHING for me!

Eating small, frequent meals can help. Also, try not to lay down right after you eat, wait about an hour before you lay down. Avoid spicy foods and any drinks that are carobonated or caffeinated, those will make it worse. Milk helps some people, but for me it makes it worse. Try to pay attention to things that make it worse, my doc told me I could take Prilosec OTC, you may want to ask your doc what would be ok to take besides Tums. Hope you feel better soon!

My heartburn/reflux was so bad that drinking even a sip of water was agony...the docs were not happy about this so at 20 weeks they started interventions...and after trying Tums, then Pepcid, they finally prescribed Protonix...I haven't had a bad day since! I've been able to eat when hungry, drink the fluids I need and no tummy trouble!! Maybe at my 26-week appointment Friday, I may have even started to gain weight! Thank you, Protonix!!

I had horrible reflux starting at 16 or 17 weeks. After weeks of taking Pepcid AC 2x/day and going through a bottle of Tums in less than a week, I asked my doc for something stronger. I've been on Protonix 40mg twice/day since week 21 and my reflux has completely disappeared! I don't know how I ever would have lasted through the second half of pregnancy without it!

I had it so bad while pg that I lost my voice as the acid actually temporarily damged my vocal chords...I tried everything. The only combo that worked for me was zantac twice a day and nexium. The nexium took the pain away. I still had reflux but it didn't hurt and I didn't wake up "choking" as much!

Good luck...the good news is literally once the babies are born....it magically goes away!

I have had it with both my pregnancies. The first time I just suffered through, eating tums like they were candy, and trying to avoid anything that might trigger it(which was pretty much everything.). Both times it would get so bad that I would want to cry when I laid down because it hurt so bad. My doctor prescribed me Protonix and I HIGHLY recommend it. Has made a huge difference.

ugh, this was the worst symptom I suffered. Started early on going through a bottle of TUMS a week, then on to Zantac, then to a scrip. Toward the end nothing helped. I'd wake up choking on bile :bad:

Sorry you're going through this :hug99:
