    Hi there,

I'm wondering if anyone has been prescribed Lortab/Vicodin or Oxycodone while pregnant... I have a condition called Trigeminal Neuralgia, where I get horrible headaches and facial pain on one side. I have been on several different meds for this in the past year and since I have been pg, have tried just taking Tylenol but it doesn't help at all. My doctor says Lortab or Oxycodone are the safest things I can take. In addition, in the past few months, my back has been hurting so bad that I am unable to sleep at night. So I have taken it for that too. I just hate the idea of taking this stuff (or anything, really) while pg and it has just bothered me throughout my pregnancy. I've discussed my concerns with the perinatologist as well and he too said these meds have a good track record of being safe in pregnancy and not causing birth defects. He said the only risk is that the babies may suffer withdrawal but that is only when the mom is taking very high dosages.
I'm just wondering if anyone has needed to take these drugs during pregnancy?

I am given Oxocodone for my back pain as well. I had chronic abdominal and back pain before pg. I was in the same boat, concerned. I don't think they would give it to me if it wasn't safe. I don't take it everyday just when i am in pain and can't handle it. I have trouble sleeping at night as well and Benedryl has been a life saver.

I have been on other sights and responded to a similar question and gotten alot of grief for it. I hope this site is different. Its really hard to explain the pain unless you have gone through that particular persons situtation so i am sympathetic to people who have pain because i have been there done that.. I hope that makes sense..

I haven't been given a pain reliever but I know someone that had these horrible phantom pains when she was pregnant asn was RX'd percocet (sp) - I THINK. Don't try to worry about it too much --- the best thing you can do is stay positive so that the babies stay positive too :)

It was a huge debate on how you shouldn't take meds during pg. There are other methods to relieve pain...bla bla. I get a massage 3 times a week and yes it helps, but when you can't sleep at night from the pain that is when it really bugs. I tried to explain my thoughts but to no avail. Anywho, I figure if the docs prescribe it than they no whats best. I took it with DD as well and she was fine....

I hope your pain eases up....

I've been on oxycodone(generic of percecet) for about 5 years, due to a car accident. Giving me sever back pain. They said I could take it while pregnant, and tylonel and me just don't get a long at all. I would only take it when I was just about in tears with pain, because I was terrified it would harm the babies. But several doctors told me no it is fine, just as long as you don't take more then your prescribed amount. HTH.
