Hi everyone, someone please help. I am a little over 17 weeks and for the past couple days I have been sore under my ribs on my right side (high up near diaphram) and it kind of goes through to the middle of my back. It hurts when I am sitting upright or laying on my side not so much when I am standing. But the really weird thing is there is a small patch of skin in that area that is numb and a little tingly. The pain isn't real bad more just really annoying. I have an appointment with the perinatologist on Friday. Is this something that I need to call the doctor for right now? I know this sounds weird but it is driving me nuts!!!Thanks

I went to my ob appt with severe right upper quadrant pain. He admitted me to L&D and they did a thorogh check up. Sono of gall bladder, liver, spleen and much more. He diagnosed me with chondritis. It's inflammation of the certilage in between the ribs. Also torn cartilege and that's why the pain was so severe. Treatment is antiinflammatories that pregnant women can't take. He offered pain meds but I declined and I just take tylenol. It only gets better after delivery. You should go get checked out though in case yours is something different.

I don't have any great input to add, but I just wanted to say that if you EVER have any doubt, call the doctor. That is what they are there for!!!

I had pain in my ribs around 24 weeks-28 weeks, but it was due to the positioning of the babies. Let's hope it is something as simple as that.

gallbladder problems are very common in pregnancy, i think i would call the dr and mention it,let them decide if you need to be seen sooner.

Ditto! I had gull bladder problems during my pregnancy and it felt a lot like you described! It can be diagnoised with a simple ultrasound.

Oh my...I am feeling that too. It started yesterday. I have an appt on the 8th, so I called the DR. They told me its normal with all the things moving around trying to fit inside me...however, if it continues or gets unbearable, to go to L&D. I had my gall bladder out about 12 years ago, so I know it cant be that. This PG has been so weird so far...so different from my other 3. My m/s started again this week, the bottom of my feet keep getting tingly, just crazy stuff. But all well worth it i suppose.

Sorry to break the news but some people still can produce stones with out a gallbladder, they get stuck in the common bile duct and pregnancy can bring them on as well. I had mine out after I lost my daughter and was having those pains again after having my twins and after many misdiagnoses they did an ERCP and saw that I had a few stones hanging out in the common bile duct...i spent several days in teh hospital as it caused pancreatitis and liver inflamation as well. Its rare but its important to know the rare things just in case you end up like me [IMG]

Thanks for that information. I will keep that in mind. I remember the feeling of those stones too vividly, as you might too.

I truly feel that gallstones are the worst pain I have ever experienced. The birth of my son filled with backlabor was nothing compared to the pain I experienced with gallstones. I had the misfortune of going misdiagnosed for over a year and I thought I was going to die.

One thing I do remember, however, when the pain first started it was not nearly as intense as it had become over the following months/year. I have had a few people close to me end up having gallstones and what makes me think gallstones every time is the pain radiating through to the back.
