Paci's and buck teeth...

My twinks are two and my baby (well, not so much anymore :( ) is one and they both have paci's for sleeping only. With all this talk around here about paci's and when to give up, I was wondering if anybody's kiddos who use paci's also have buck teeth.
My DD (the one who is 2) has terrible buck teeth. It looks bad. She looks like a rabbit!!! My DS also has them but not as pronounced. My DD (the not-a-baby) seems fine.
I am not in too much of a hurry to get rid of them for the same reasons many have said....that they are a comfort to them and only used at night. But their teeth look so bad!
I wonder if that is a reason in itself to get rid of them. Or does everyone deal with the buck teeth too?

What type of paci do you use? I use the Nuk type and they don't have buck teeth... they too use them only at nap and bedtime.

I'm not sure what kind they are....they are the ones we received from the hospital. They are green and the end is a circle. I've never really seen them in stores. Maybe I should switch brands.

We use the Nuk's as well. No buck teeth...

I would try switching brands as well.

The Nuk claims to be orthodontic safe. I think I know which kind you are referring to. Maybe a switch would help... if they'll take the new kind.

They may not take the new kind...

Ben and Hannah's teeth were not the worst, but they were obvious paci users (space between teeth and obvious protruding). Three months after giving up the pacifier, they are totally normal looking.

So my advice, if you are concerned about the appearance of the teeth, would be to discontinue the paci.

I think you have to worry more if you have thumb suckers.

Berkey actually took her "poppi" {pacifier} until her 4th b-day. She's 7 now and her tteth are perfect.

One of my children has a huge space between the front teeth and was done with pacifiers long before any teeth came through. I will be interested to see how the adult teeth grow in (one top tooth is out and the other is on its way out any day now). I don't know if there is any correlation but I can tell you they can happen without any paci's in the picture.

Thumb sucking never entered the pic for my buck toothed child so that definitely isn't the reason why either.

My daughter was using a binkie (night only) up until January, when we had our first dental visit.

The Dentist pointed out that she has a little bit if extra spacing between front teeth & her teeth are slightly outward. It's really hard to notice, but having just paid for our first set of braces for our ten year old son in December, we ditched the binkie ASAP.

I braced myself for a tough transition, but she just fussed at bedtime the first night but still slept through the night. She asked for it for a few nights, but that was it. I think we lucked out!
