before you actually lose your mind???? Seriously, DD is 3.5months and has me at her beck and call with her paci. She uses it only to fall asleep but then wakes up when it falls out of her mouth. To I have to run over and replace it during all of the wee hours and during her naps???

I am having the same problem. My ds doesn't use it except to help fall asleep. I get up several times a night to replace it and wonder if I've created a binky monster. Just to offer you hope, my ds is trying so hard to put it back in himself, he just isint there yet with the coordination, so I am hoping he will be able to do it himself soon. I just don't want to take it away from him because he is teething and I know the sucking is soothing to him.

When mine were younger and still needed to be swaddled, Out of pure fatigue and sleep deprivation I would swaddle the hospital binky (soothie has a rubber handle on it) in with the blanket with a little covering their mouth (they are nose breathers so don't think I'm crazy) Only b/c I would have to re-insert the damn binky 100 times it felt like all night long...

I would say now I try a few times maybe 4-5 times (DS only; DD has no interest she loves her thumb) and if he keeps spitting it out I give up, I had to try a bunch of different kinds of binkies before he would take to the one he uses, they came home w/ the soothie one that they spit out faster than I could put it in and it drove me crazy!!! It didn't have much to latch onto.

    Thanks Shannon,

Which one ended up working? We still use the hospital one which may be the problem. She likes it so much I am afraid to switch.

It's maddening isnt't it?? Before long they will be able to do it themselves...that is if they haven't knocked it out of the crib

NEVER. Once they lost the binkie that was it. I am not going to be getting up in the night to replace binkies. I made a rule with my 2nd pregnancy that I wasn't going to start any sort of behaviors that I didn't plan on continuing long-term.

I think it was due to this that my baby that actually did take a binky stopped taking it shortly after, which is fine with me. It gets old having to remember to have pacis with you wherever you go (and trying to clean them when your only one lands on a restaurant floor).

Amy - I swear when I read your posts I think we are leading the same life.....I didn't get ANY sleep last night because DD kept waking up, so I'd run down the hallway to put in the paci only to have it drop out 15 mintues later and have to go back down again. I finally gave up and took a pillow and blanke into their room and slept on the floor.

What's so awful is she USED to be our great sleeper, but I don't know what happened!! I'm hoping it's maybe a growth spurt because she's been soooo restless the past few nights. I have to go back to work next week, and there is no way I'll make it if I keep having nigths like the last few!

Good Luck - I don't have any advice other than I'm there with ya. I'm afraid if I don't put the paci in, she'll cry so much she'll wake up the good sleepr, and then all H**L will break loose in the middle of the night.

    UGH!
    Hugs, Suzi

I really only have to do paci's when they are trying to go to sleep for the night. After that maybe once during the night if I don't think they are hungry.

OMG, I am such a slave to the bink.

One twin pulls it out and has to hold it, so he has to have 2 binks, one for his mouth and one to hold.

THe other twin sleeps on his tummy and the bink consistenly falls out of his mouth.

I reinsert the bink at least 5-6 times overnight, if not more.

They sleep next to me, so it's not a huge deal, but getting old. I'm ready to get rid of the bink, cold turkey.

My daughter started sucking her fingers around 4 months and self weaned from the bink. I wish they would do the same!

we were the same way, so we switch pacis. we switched from the hospital ones to the MAM brand. it worked miracles. I would only have to go in there maybe 1 or 2 times in the middle of the night if any. then they started waking up alot around 6 months so we moved up to the 6-12 month size and that worked. hope that helped.

I found out that my guys didn't really need pacis for this exact same reason... by three months it was obvious I needed to let it go or go insane running around fixing them all the time. They do make this stuffed animals with the pacis in them so that they can stay one place better. The Nuke pacifier people make them.
