what do you do when your babies are overtired and don't know WHAT they want, and all they do is fuss and cry? sometimes my girls are up ALL DAY and don't want to sleep/nap, and by the end of the day they are so freakin' tired they don't know what to do with themselves. like yesterday they were up all day, and they were SO cranky they didn't actually go to sleep up 2am!!! they slept until 8:30, woke up to eat, slept until 11:30, ate adn are sleeping again. i can't keep them awake because of all the chaos yesterday/last night. so now when they finally wake up, they'll be up all night (happy new year) cuz they slep all day. i don't know how to stop this cycle!

I used to take my tiwns for a ride inthe car when they wouldn't sleep/ were overtired. It almost always helped. Good luck!

    No advice, just hugs!!

We used to spend hours walking/rocking/shushing overtired babies. Once we hit the 3 month mark we started doing modified CIO and it has gotten so so so much better (not perfect, but better). We put them in their cribs for nap/bedtime and we will go in and comfort them as much as needed, but will not pick them up, it's taken awhile, but they are starting to get it.

I'm figuring out that when my DD gets really fussy I swaddle her. It helps her calm down and then I lay her in her crib for a nap. Have you tried swaddling them? They are not too young if you want to try it. I did in the beginning till about 4 weeks thinking they didn't like it. Then I started again at 2.5 months and they love it. She gets swaddled and out she goes.

Maia turns into a total crazylady when she is overtired (like every afternoon!! She hates naps!). I swaddle her up real tight, bring her into a dark room with no noise, cradle her and either shhhh in her ear or rub her head and face or pat her bum (usually a combo of all those). I kind of have to hold her against her will too because she will buck and smash her head off me.
I had stopped swaddling them for a while because I didnt think they needed it but I realized that its not doing them any harm, and it does help to calm them down and they definitely sleep better when swaddled. I just this week started swaddling her to make her take naps too and I have got her to take a few more than normal but they still arent that long. I am going to keep working with her though. ;)

Another thing I have done which has worked a couple times but not always is putting her in the carseat and fastening it and then just walk around the house with it with the shade down so she cant see. She likes to be all tight, she cant see anything and she likes the motion. I dont even have to put her in the car and drive, I can usually trick her in the house.

    Good luck!!

ETA: Turn the vacuum on!! Seriously it makes them stop crying and within a few minutes she usually falls asleep. Its crazy but it works. :)

SWADDLE SWADDLE SWADDLE and let them nap whereever they will. Mine napped and slept in swings until we moved them into their cribs at 3mos. They made the transition just fine. My DD also would go all day without napping until I found the majic combination of a tight tight swaddle (google miracle blanket - it worked wonders for us) and placing her on her side in an elevated sleep positioner. Please be sure they are not suffering from reflux as well. I finally realized my babies both had silent reflux (they do not have to spit up to have reflux) and once I stopped trying to lay them flat on their backs and got them some meds for the reflux they actually started napping.

I will say; however, that my DD is still - at 7 mos now - a vehmenent(sp?) sleep fighter and I have to let her CIO now. Of course it is too early for you to CIO but try swaddling and elevating them during sleep.

I am having the exact same problem. We have been up until 2/3 am every night for the past week or so. I obviously have no advice, just lots of sympathy!

Mine started to like sleeping in their swings at about that age. We did eat, play, sleep (in swing during the day), repeat.
Swaddling also worked really well for us at night. They also slept in their infant seats in the duoglider while I was walking them (pulled up both canopies so it was dark in their seats). Good luck! It gets better.

Put them down for their first nap no more than 1 hour after they wake in the morning. Do whatever you can to get them to take this initial nap (swing, swaddle, stroller, pacis, whatever!). The first nap of the day is the first one to fall into place for most babies, and once you get that one the others slowly come. I know it seems strange to put your babies back to bed so soon after they get up, but little babies NEED sleep. You should read Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child ASAP - it saved my life.
