went to see yet another pedi yesterday. this one is the one covered by our insurance so i figured lets give her a try
she went on and on about nutrition and i will summarize the points that freaked me out- maybe i'm wrong and she's right? if so please set me straight. the other two pedi we saw were actually very pleased with what i was feeding them!
    she said:
they shouldn't eat oatmeal etc from scratch but rather the prefixed baby cereals (you know like nestle makes that have sugar, flavourings and preservatives)
the should not eat whole grains but only processed
they should drink formula till about 3 years old
i should add lemon to their food so they find it tasty (although they have allergy to orange she sais that it's ok)
i should feel them one big meal a day in the afternoon and only yogurt at night so they get used to having one main meal
they shouldn't eat regular yogurt, cream cheese, cottage cheese rather they should have special baby yogurts (with flavours, sugar etc) or feta cheese (which is unpasteurized!!!)
they don't like meat so she said that's because i bf them too much (till 6.5 months is hardly too much if there is such a thing)
they should eat meat every day
they should only eat veggies once a day- no need for second serving.

my head was spinning i was trying to be polite and she kept going on and on....
and we were there for iris's upper respiratory infection whcich apparantly wasn't as interesting to her as her nutrition lecture.
    agggghhhh!

Run for the hills...and on the way, call your insurance company and let them know what a wack job (not exactly in those terms) they have on their preferred provider list...save someone else from such horendous advice

I'm glad you know better. It's downright frightening to think that someone might follow that advice. I think that this doctor might have a real issue other than lack of knowledge.

Oh, and I'm on the extended nursing plan (3-4 times a day still) and mine LOVE, LOVE, LOVE meat so :p on that.

What the heck is wrong with her? That is very disturbing. Yeah, I'd be finding a new doc.

I'm in complete shock...that is the worst information from anybody that I have ever heard...and I have been told to give the babies some strange things since they "used to work back in the day"...I am quite concerned that she is a physician.

Honestly she sounds like a quack to me! I have NEVER heard of a doc saying you can BF too much or to give your kiddos meat everyday!! Or formula until age 3!! WHAT! I would def. change pedis again!!

Wow thats crazy. The b/f one definately baffles me. I had a pediatrician who was all for b/f ur kids until they were 5.
I dont like pediatricians who set the "book on babies" as bible. Each baby needs flexibility because we all know they are not all alike. I love our present ped, she is the best!! Doesnt hurt that she has babies at home too so I know she does what she thinks works.

    Run away fast...no, faster...what a werido.

I think that is the one that was ranked 300 out of their 300 person med school class...!

And none of that nutrition "advice" is consistent to what the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends!! Yep, run and get another pedi!!

Thanks for your posts and indignation. I was starting to worry that i had it all wrong the way she went on and on about all the things i thought i was doing right.
As if raising these babies isn't enough stress I have to run into every crazy quack dr in Greece!!

Can anybody tell me where i can find the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics on nutrition?
That would help me so much!

This might be what you're looking for (I think!!):

    http://www.aap.org/healthtopics/nutrition.cfm

Does she have degree credentials on your insurance's web site? That might let you know if she found her license to practice inside one of those processed oatmeal boxes she mentioned.

I highly recommend the book Super Baby Food. It's the most detailed book I could ever imagine about feeding babies.

Run, Forest, Run...LOL, and don't look back. I am NICU RN and this pedi is a quack job. Your kiddo's will eat when they are hungry, and feed them what they like. All kiddos go through stages where they won't eat certain foods, some haven't developed the liking for meat. Just keep offering, eventually they will eat it.

Good Luck on the Pedi search, there are some really good ones out there.
