I'm in my 27th week. I'm due March 28. Obviously, I don't know when I will deliver yet or how early, but was thinking about getting a coat or something for the girls. I know there are a lot of sales and just wanted your advice. I know they won't be in them long with spring just around the corner.

Do you think this might be to much of a coat:

Or do you think just a regular coat like this:

Anyone due about my time? What are you doing about outerwear? I live in the midwest and the weather seems to be unpredictable lately.

I'm due on Mar. 16th and JUST broke down and bought a coat for myself from Gap Maternity. It's their pleated lady coat and I LOVE it. It's very cute and I've gotten lots of compliments on it. I did have to get a XXL (gasp!), though. I tried on an XL, which fit, but I knew it wouldn't fit a few weeks from now. The XXL gives me and the babies room to grow :) Here's what I got:

That coat is ADORABLE! My friend let me borrow her maternity coat from the Gap - she had a baby a year ago and only wore the coat a couple of times.

I actually was asking what to get the babies.

For the first year+ I just had my twins in fleece one-piece snowsuits (like the kind from Columbia and LL Bean). You can get them inexpensively on Ebay (or things will probably start going on sale now that Christmas is over). More or less similar to the first Gap one you linked too. The fold-over flaps for hands and feet are important (can't tell if the Gap one has them for feet) as you don't want to have to mess with mittens and boots if you don't have to.

I don't think having a regular jacket is very functional for infants - the one piece things are much more convenient.

    good luck!

We are also in the midwest, and my boys were just in regular clothes, with a receiving blanket on top of them and then a carseat cover over them (so they were completely covered).

They are both really adorable, but I agree with pp that the first one is probably more practical. I live in the South and it hasn't gotten too cold yet (and not expected to), so I guess I can't be of any more help than that. I have two snowsuits I got in a shower if we absolutely need them but wasn't planning on getting anything else.

THanks for your advice. I think I'm going to order the first one - the one that covers their legs too. They are under 1/2 price so it's not very much money anyways.

My twins were born in February and we didn't have coats for them. If you get one of the car seat covers, a blanket and the outfits they are wearing should be more than enough. I'm not sure where you live, but it might be impractical to invest in them (even though they are adorable!!).

I would not even attempt to get a newborn into one of those coats. Squished up limbs do not cooperate.

When my daughter was born in January, we did regular clothes with one extra layer, a blanket and car seat cover.

It is not safe to have a coat on the baby when you strap them in - the seat belts do not protect properly in an accident. You are supposed to take them off (too much trouble!) in the car.

    Hi Bridgett,

I am due on the same day as you!

Those coats are really cute!! I haven't really thought about getting them coats. I have to agree with the last post that with all the blankets and seat covers, etc. they should be just fine. But then again, when there is a deal, it's hard to pass up. I live in Southern CA and am not too worried about outerwear. I figure as soon as they are out of the hospital (probably early March because I assume I'll deliver earlier then my due date), I will just bring them home and probably will not be going anywhere for a few months. Good luck to you!!! Just a couple of months left!

Just seat covers here. Perhaps a light blanket, those covers can really hold in some heat!

If they are going to be in infant carseats, I would go with the smaller coat because it's easy to put on and you can put blankets over their legs and also over the entire seat.

My two were born in Feb and I just did a car seat cover...Bundle me's. They wore their regular sleepers and I covered them with blankets and then just zipped the bundle me's up. They were always nice and toasty and no need to try to get two babies in and out of snowsuits.

My two are 10.5 months now and it's a HUGE PITA to use the snowsuits (or even jackets/hats/mittens) but they are out of their infant seats now and it's not practical to just use blankets while in the car. It gets VERY cold here.

I am due April 7, but we expect me deliver sometime in March, unless I go much earlier, but hopefully that won't happen. I haven't thought about coats. Besides to the doc till after April is over they will not go anywhere because it is still RSV season. Figure if family and friends want to see them, they are more than welcome to come over. :)

I had the big one piece thing for my son and I think I used it twice. With my second son and for when the twins are born, I stick to a car seat cover/warm blanket and hat. They stay toasty and if the fall asleep, you can just roll back the car seat cover when you get to wherever you're going or if the car gets too warm inside and not worry about taking them out of the seat and taking the coat off.
