We are naming our girl twin, Allysa. There are two ways to spell it....... Allysa where we would call her Ally or Alyssa which is the normal way. Everytime my two year old says her name she says lysa. We are starting to think that is going to be the nickname instead of Ally. Just wanted some ideas on how other people would spell it!

We considered the same name for our DD, too. It's such a cute name. Personally, I like it spelled , "Alyssa."

Agree with pps, I would go with the traditional way, Alissa or Alyssa. IMO, it is always so frustrating when people spell your name wrong, and you would be setting her up for that with the different spelling. There is no reason you couldn't still call her "Ally" or "Lyssa" :) !

Thank you everybody! Lots of great advice. I think I am definitely going to change it to Alyssa. Everything I find that is personalized is spelled this way so I just think it will be easier for her! She won't have to spell it all the time!

One of my oldest friends is named Alissa. In fact as a child I thought my name should have been spelled Malissa because it was pronounced the same as Alissa but with an M!

I like Alissa or Alyssa. I agree that no matter how you spell it you can use any nickname, the nickname doesn't have to be just a cropped version of the name! And you're right you'll find more things with Aylssa or Alissa printed on them.

I also knew a girl named Elyssa. I thought that was unique and pretty.

After almost 26 years of having to spell my name everytime for everything, I have to say Alyssa.

LOL. I'm the opposite. :) My name uses the uncommon spelling and I much prefer it. It's never bothered me to spell it (it's just a reflex) and I think it is prettier. It also makes me a little less common. ;) I like Allyssa better than Alyssa.

One thing that did bother me as a kid was that they never had my name on all those personalized items. That's not an issue now though because personalization prices have come way down and you can get pretty much anything personalized for cheap. My three children have uncommon names but they have more personalized items than they probably should. :)

I think that's a very pretty name. I like the spelling of Alyssa. I had a friend who spelled it Illyssa- but I think that can get annoying after a while because very few people actaully spell it correctly.
