    Hello everyone,
So, this past Saturday, August 1, 2009, at 34 weeks and 3 days, I awoke with an awful pain in my right side. It was a constant, stabbing pain when I stood or walked that would not go away. If I sat down it would lessen considerably but not go away completely. So, away to the hospital we went thinking that I had a pulled ligament or something.
Well, to our surprise the doctor wanted to check my cervix and sure enough I was 2 cm dilated and 50 % effaced. So, we had to wait 4 hours to see if there was a change. 4 hours later I was almost 3 cm and 75% effaced. So, apparently I was in labour and didn't even know it. They had my hooked up to the fetal monitor and I was having contractions every few minutes but felt nothing.
We opted for a c-section because the dr. didn't know how big the second baby was and didn't want to put her distress by trying a vaginal labour.
So, at 12:45 am on Sunday, August 2, 2009 baby Phoenix Elizabeth was born weighing in at 5 pds 14 oz, 18 inches long, followed by Essence Ava at 12:27 am weighing in at 4 pds and 10 oz at 17 inches long. So, they were big for their gestation.
The babies stayed in the NICU for a few days. Phoenix is a little piggy eating 2 oz from the get go. But Essence wasn't taking the bottle very well and ended up with a feeding tube. She bounced back very fast though and is now eating just as much as Phoenix is. They are both home now. Phoenix came home yesterday and Essence today. The nurses said they were surprised at how fast they were getting out due to being born so early.
Now everyone is doing great and we're at home trying to handle our two little ones.
So, now I have a question....the nurses said I should feed them every 3-4 hours regardless, even through the night. Should I stick to this or should I let them tell me when they're hungry at night instead of waking them up?

Congratulations Momma!! Welcome to the 1st year with twins! Glad to hear everyone is home and healthy.

Definitely keep feeding them every 3-4 hours until your pediatrician tells you otherwise. They are preemies and they need those calories!

    Congratulations on your little ones!!!!

As far as the feeding goes, i would keep the 3 hours going until your ped tells you its fine to let them, just because they were slightly early.[IMG]

Congrats on the safe arrival of your girls, and what beautiful names you picked for them. They seem like real troopers, but to be on the safe side I would stick to the feeding schedule.

I agree with all the others, definitely keep them on the 3-4 hour schedule unless your Pediatrician says otherwise :good:

    Congratulations!!

Yes, I would stick to feeding them and waking them if they are sleeping every 3-4 hours until the ped tells you otherwise. Preemies need all the extra calories they can get.
