well... our babies have sttn on and off since month 2... and as I look back on it, mainly when they didn't was when they were teething (1st teeth at 6 months, now each have 7 and one baby is getting a molar already)... but there were feeding issues and sleeping issues too... they are now 13 months old...

    1. earlier bedtime... if I get them to bed by 7p or 7:30p they seem to sleep later - until 7a (Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child book)

    2. teething - if they are teething, I just found those "Hylands Teething Tablets"... my boy really reacted great to them and calmed right down. they disolve in the mouth very quickly.

    3. enough milk at bedtime... I breastfeed, and my supply at night was very low (maybe they'd get 2 to 3 oz) ... so now (since we're past a year), I have been giving them 4+ oz bottle of soy milk after they wake from their afternoon nap - between 4-5p. this allows me to breastfeed at 7a, 12noon and 7p and have lots for them at night (I think they are getting 6-8 oz now)!

    4. I just tried (why haven't I done this before)... clipping their pacifiers to them at night... I like the MAM clips, they have a kind of slide mechanism, the ones we got a year ago aren't near as good as the new ones they make that I got a month or so ago, the new ones really clip well, and the babies didn't get them off. (I don't know if they find the paci themselves at night now, or if they just aren't waking anymore... but many a night I've been on the floor looking for the dang pacifiers - we even have a flashlight to look for them!)

of course next week or month it will be something different... but its just so nice to get some sleep! last night I put them in their cribs by 7:30p and I think they were sleeping by 7:45p or 8p, and I woke before them at 7:10am...woo hoo! now if momma could only get off the computer before 11:30p and get to bed!

I do everything you said, PLUS I have a white noise machine. I'm a little upset these days because my LOs are waking up crying from the motorcycles leaving for work at 6:30am....the weather is nice right now and everyone is riding their bikes to work in WA. I miss the days when my little ones woke up happy and talking.....hopefully it will happen again son.

oh yeah... that reminds me we do #5 white noise too. most of the time its on the rainfall sound. I do think that helps...

sorry about the noisy motorcycles - ugh! we're on the end of a street so at least we don't get too much noise that way!

anyone have any suggestions to a better clip for keeping the pacifiers attached to them w/o becoming a choking hazard? someone pm'd me to let me know that her daughter had turner her head and was leaning her neck into the ribbon...

I wondered if I had a shorter clip ribbon and attached it to the middle of the PJs or sleep sack if that would help... my dd loves her paci, well actually my ds does too... any ideas on a better clipping mechanism for the paci?

    Congrats on STTN!

I´ve never ever clipped my LOs´ dummies to them as I don´t think it´s safe - no offence meant to those who do this.

Maybell: You could try leaving several dummies in their cot so they find them. I should take my own advice as I only give one to each of mine and before I go to bed, I make sure it´s nearby as they´re nearly always on the floor! I also leave extra ones incase I need to go to them in the night. That way I dont need to fumble around in the dark looking for them! LOL!

that's what i was goign to say! unfortunately, mine stopped using their pacis as soon as they could pull them out--like a year ago:(. i would LOVE for them to have something so soothing to help them sleep.... but anyways, i've read in lots of books that having several of them in the crib is helpful. or teaching them how to put them back in... or, putting them all in a little basket in the crib where the babes can find them.

We don't clip the paci on for DD, what we do is keep 3 paci's in her bed. We give her one and she puts it in her mouth, and then we put one on each side of the bed so she can find it at night. We are fully stocked! LOL :D

yes, on a good night, I do try to remember to get 1 extra each (they take different ones...) and put them on a table for ME to be able to get to easily if they scream in the night... but I also like the idea of a little basket and putting the extras in there... thanks for the suggestions... I have mixed feelings with the pacis... seems that they settle and soothe so nicely with them... but they are a headache too.

most clip strings aren't longer than 6 inches so it'd be hard to get hurt, but I'm sure there is a warning on there somewhere about not sleeping with them on-- that said, I don't think there's anything really wrong with it--- my comment is more to the multiple pacifiers in the crib (now I need to look up where you're from- you sound a lot like my babyworld friends :) ) we did that with my son (my girls won't take them) and I just ended up crawling under the crib for the 6 I'd put in there the night before :) never worked for us, LOL.

and congrats to the original poster on the STTN-- though extremely jealous-- we just started getting close to that in the last few weeks.

They do make some pacifiers that glow in the dark.

Also, instead of clipping it to them, you could clip a spare onto the crib sheet (around the elastic part), so at least YOU can find it easier at night.
