Just an RSV story to share. It's certainly not to scare anyone, but I thought it would be good to share just incase there were others out there who have had to deal with this yucky stuff! The boys had been sick for about a week and didn't seem to be getting any better. Their congestion was all in their head and started to move down into their chest the middle of last week. We took them to urgent care on 2/17 just to make sure that it was just a cold (they had congestion, gunky eyes, etc.). They took a chest x-ray and everything looked good. Their oxygen saturation was also good, so we were sent home and followed up with our ped the next day. Thursday, I picked them up from daycare and they just didn't seem to be any better, so I called the doctor. He said that viruses could take up to 10 days to run their course, so I should call them back on Monday if they aren't better. My husband took them to a different doctor on Friday (treatments for flat spots). The doctor took one look at Seth, listened to his chest and said they should be taken to the hospital. Well...they went to the emergency room, got another chest x-ray and this time it was cloudy for both boys. They ended up admitting both babies for what we thought was overnight and they were put on oxygen. Our overnight hospital stay turned into 5 night hospital stay! They actually got worse while they were there and needed to be on oxygen longer. Finally yesterday, they were both able to sleep off of the oxygen and we were able to come home. They're feeling better and we are doing breathing treatments here at home.

Their cold turned into RSV... I'm grateful to the doctor that told us to go and called ahead. Otherwise, we wouldn't have done anything until Monday like the ped told us. I guess I should have been more firm with the ped.... A hard lesson learned. Thankfully the babies are thriving. They were a big hit at the hospital because they flirted with ALL of the nurses, even though the nurses had masks on!

Yikes! I'm glad they are home and doing better. My pedi told me we are at the peak of RSV season, at least in the state I live in. I've been hearing about tons of babies catching it.

Glad to hear they are fine now. It just goes to show you that the peds are not right all the time. We parents must use our instincts sometimes.

You may not have made it through the weekend. It's a 7 day disease and gets worse on day 3, so their temps may have spiked over the weekend. That's what happened with us. Poor Alex was so sick on Saturday, but not a serious fever. On Sunday is spiked so I took him to the ER. And it was the same with us -- he was so flirty, even with oxygen on, that he was the star of the ped floor that day. Luckily, we were able to take him home the next day.

Our suspicion is that Rich, Marcella and I had it, but it was just a cold for us.
