    Hey Everyone!

I have been home for awhile since I had my u/s done. We recieved some news was far from what we were expecting, and I haven't been able to think of how to type this message out. John and I went to breakfast early this morning and then headed to my appointment at 8:00. I met my perinatologist, who my sister gave rave reviews of with her two pregnancies and came as a recommnedation from my OB as well.

Our Baby B (Alyssa Nicole) - Heartrate was 155 and she wasn't the most cooperative baby in showing if she was still a girl, unlike at 17.5 weeks. She is now sitting with her legs crossed and being stubburn in that sense. We saw the 4 chambers of her heart, she has 2 kidneys, bladder, stomach, she was estimated to weigh 9.5oz. She had her hands in her face the entire time, so we didn't get any good face shots. She wasn't as active as her brother, but not cooperative at all either.

Our Baby A (Nathan James) - His heartrate was 160 and he was extremely active. He flashed us his parts many times and we got a picture to put in his baby book of that and to show our family that one is a boy for sure. We got to see all 4 chambers of his heart, kidneys, stomach, his arms and legs. They began at the bottom and worked their way up. I was so fascinated with all of this, and I looked at John and he was grinning ear to ear. When they got to his face, the sonographer left the room and came back with a nurse and then returned with the doctor. I knew right then something was going on and we were told that it appears that Nathan has anencephaly.

I had only heard of this condition a few times, but he is sending us to a specialist on Friday to confirm this. I am hoping the first diagnosis is wrong and that they will find a normal brain on him and its all a bad dream. I am so relieved that my husband was there with me, because it was a long drive home from the doctor's office. We got the call from the specialist's office on the way home that they can see me on Friday at 3:30.

I wish it was better news to report, we did enjoy the scan and getting to see them. Please keep us in your prayers.

Many hugs for you. I know how it is to get news you don't want via ultrasound, so I'm glad your husband was there with you. Hopefully the specialist will be able to give you better news.

Try to think of that lovely (if not cooperative) little girl you've got too. She deserves lots of warm thoughts, love, and pleasant body chemistry from you right now too. I know it's hard, but you will make it though this. Life won't be the same, but it will go on.

    Much love,
    Dominique

    Thanks everyone.

I am relieved too that we will know sooner than later about what will be going on. We have been reading up on the condition and have found some stories of babies living days to weeks to months with it depending on the severity of it.

I am thankful we have one healthy child inside of me, but I am holding out all hope that this was wrong and he's going to be perfect come birthday.

Does anyone here have some experience or anyone know of anyone that has had a baby born with the condition? We would love to get in touch with some one and see what we can expect.
