So Emma has her first ear infection. She was pretty cranky over the weekend, had a low fever on Saturday night and wasn't sleeping well so I took her in. We got her some antibiotics and wow was last night just like one big party!! It was like she heard the diagnosis and things got worse!

She couldn't fall asleep at 7:30 so got SUPER cranky and over tired (she had been up since 2:30) and finally passed out from screaming around 10 (right after we placed a call to the after hours nurse of course). Then she was up at 12 and into our bed, which really makes for great restful sleep!

I am hoping that nap goes better today and that the antibiotics kick in and help before bedtime so she can sleep in her own bed tonight.

Please tell me that ear infections aren't contagious - I don't think I could stand having 2 15 month olds with ear infections. Not fun!

Well - thanks for listening to my complaints, and thank god for Noggin!

My DD had an ear infection which caused her eardrum to burst. . I was freaked. I put her on antibiotics, too. It wasn't long and DS started getting the same symptoms. We had to put him on antibiotics as well as the dr said he was starting to build up fluid in the ear.

I don't know if it is contagious, but they both had the same bug and ended up getting the ear infections within days of each other.

Arwen is right now on her 4th ear infection (and it's a double ear infection..fun fun). She also has bronchitis which makes for a really bad combo as the constant coughing is reaking havoc on her poor little ears. However, I did give her some tylenol with her first dose of the antibiotic to help alleviate some of the pain in her ears (and her throat which is also red and irritated) and last night I gave her some motrin because she was uncomfortable and it seemed to really help. I just wasn't sure how long it would really take for the antibiotic to kick in and kill the pain.

I was told that ear infections are NOT contagious. Arwen seems to get them everytime she gets a bad cold because the drainage going down her throat (post nasal drip) affects her ears when she is sleeping (or just laying down in a flat position). Hope your little one feels better soon.

Well - she went down for her nap ok. It is so strange that they can nap during the day but not sleep at night. I went down for my nap ok too :D

I was talking to my dad and he said that when we were little the pedi used to tell him to put a little vodka on a q-tip, put that in our ear and then take a shot of it himself!

My how things have changed in the last 25 years!!

At first I thought you were bragging...15 months and no ear infections? You are so lucky!! Both of mine got their first ones at four months, then had 6 or 7 EACH in a 4 month period, and tubes placed at 8 months. They have even managed to have a few since then...

I hate that she got one though. They really are miserable little things when they have an ear infection. As far as them being contagious, technically they are not. But the illness that caused the fluid to build up and become infected could be.

I don't know about vodka  but maybe a little tylenol or motrin might help with the pain. Of course the vodka would probably help YOU sleep!

I really hope she feels better soon, and that everyone gets a good night's sleep!

Oh god - not bragging at all! We have been VERY lucky with colds and stuff. I am sorry it came off that way, it was supposed to be more of a whine/vent...

She went down easy tonight - let's hope it lasts. Mia was feeling a little warm tonight...I am bracing for round 2!
