Our Boys are here!

Hello!

Aiden Christopher and William Richard were born on Monday, January 28th 2008 at 36 weeks, 5 days. After receiving the positive lung maturity results on the amnio the previous Friday, we anxiously awaited Monday afternoon when I was to report to the hospital for my 5:30 pm c-section. I was so happy to know that our babies were "ready" to be born, but I was still so nervous that they would be too small or that the amnio was inaccurate. According to last U/S we had, they were predicted to weigh about 6lbs. 14 oz. each, but you just never know….

On Monday evening, once we FINALLY agreed on our boys' names in the pre-op room, my husband accompanied me to the Operating Room. After what seemed like forever, the spinal took effect (it seemed to take much longer this time for some reason…may have been the extra weight I was carrying around ;-).

What a relief it was when we were greeted by little squeals as our baby boys came into the world!

Aiden was born at 6:20 p.m. weighing 7lbs. 11 oz. and measuring 20 inches in length. William was born at 6:22 p.m. weighing 8lbs. 3 oz. and measuring 19.75 inches in length.

I was able to hold each baby and give him a kiss before my husband went with them to the nursery.

Even my OB and midwife were surprised by their weights… I received the same comments as I had when my first born was delivered about what a "workout" it was for the doctors and saying that I should be an advertisement for my prenatal vitamins. All of the joking helped lighten the mood and got me through the rest of the surgery since my husband remained with the babies in the nursery.

Overall, my recovery was a little easier this time since I knew what to expect from my first delivery. I was ready to get out of bed the next day and start changing diapers or transporting my boys to and from the nursery. Unfortunately, I had a horrible reaction to the tape used on my bandage that kept me in bed on the second day in the hospital. Despite that setback, I was still able to leave the hospital on Thursday feeling somewhat rested and ready to take our baby boys home to their big brother!

We're still trying to get the boys accustomed to night and day time sleeping patterns and I'm working on nursing two little wiggle worms at the same time... We are constantly learning something new about them. Sharing a placenta/chorionic sac, they are considered identical, however we love to compare the similarities and differences…And their personalities are always keeping us on our toes.

Again, I thank you all for your kind thoughts and for sharing all of your experiences…you have helped me get through my pregnancy and I am looking forward to learning more from you in the first year!

I have some catching up to do in reading posts from the last few weeks, but I am excited to see all the other babies who have been born.

I was so happy to see your post! I have been wondering about you and how everything went. Wow, your babies are big and beautiful, but you still looked fantastic! I am glad things went smoothly and that they are healthy. How does big brother like the twins? Was he surpriesed when you actually brought two babies home to stay? Get some rest, you deserve it!
