Our little one is sleeping so I need to type fast :)

After having a very difficult recovery with the twins (one born vaginally and one by csection), I was very determined to have a different experience. I had in my mind that this time it will be different! After much hope and prayer I was able to birth my gift at home peacefully- it was so beautiful! I'm still in amazement.

I had our little girl 4 days past her due date. I was not dilated or effaced and the baby was still really high, so I thought this was going to take a while.

I started contracting off/on all day Saturday. They kind of stopped in the afternoon, so I was a little bummed. Oh, I did use my breast pump during the morning and day to get things going, which I truly believed helped a lot. During the night they picked up again (every 10-15 minutes) but again, not very strong. I wasn't getting my hopes up. I thought to myself that this can go on for another week or so. On Sunday I was contracting about every 10 minutes most of the morning and stopped again during the afternoon, although picked up again every 10-15 minutes in the evening. They continued through the night and I got very little sleep. By early morning (5 am or so) I woke my husband and told him that I've been having light contractions all night. He thought he should still go into work since this could continue for days. I told him to wait and call the birth team. A homebirth nurse was sent to our house about 945 in the morning and she checked me and I was 4 cm! I was thrilled. Maybe we'll have a baby today or tomorrow! She decided to stay until I birthed.

I labored throughout the day about 7 minutes apart. It wasn't too intense, felt pretty good. My husband and I went for a couple of walks and we were feeling pretty great! I was checked again about 3pm and was 5-6 cm. Progress! Still feeling great and excited. I continued to pray and hope in my mind that this birth experience will be positive and peaceful. Things started to pick up around 545 pm. I was feeling more intensity with the contractions. I was checked again. 7 cm! Soon after that they continued to pick up. I was encouraged to get in the birth pool to feel some relief. I was a little nervous for some reason. I think knowing this could be "it" was emotional for me. That I will soon be holding my gift, my baby. I decided to get in the birth pool and the intensity continued. The birth team all left upstairs and my husband and I were there laboring together. It was beautiful. About 630 pm or so, I was telling my husband that only "I" can birth this baby, no one else. He agreed. I was trying to get in the mindset of what was to come. As soon as I told him that my water broke in the water! It felt like a burst. I told my husband that my water broke, and he said ok. I yelled this time and told him to get everyone down here NOW the baby is coming!!!! All of the sudden people came downstairs. I was checked and was complete. I started pushing will all my might, all my emotion, with EVERYTHING!!! She was coming down fast. I could feel her. I was pretty much roaring at this point because all I wanted was to have her in my arms! I didn't expect to birth her in the water, it just happened that way. I tried to follow whatever natural path God gave me during this entire birth journey. As soon as her head was out her body followed like a cannon in the water :) She was born at 642 pm.

She was guided on me and I was completely emotional. I couldn't believe she was here safely and healthy! God is so good!! I pulled her off a bit to check the gender, it's a girl! I was so overcome! I thought it was beautiful that I was the first to look. I didn't plan to look first, it all just happened that way. My husband and I are eternally grateful to God who answered our prayers and to the people who believed in us. It was the most amazing and beautiful experience! I apologize for the length of this, it feels good to express the experience in words. I continue to hope and pray for all of you who hope for a vbac. It has been a very healing experience for me! God Bless!!
