We had our 9 month check-up yesterday.

Little Tony is doing well. He is following his growth curve in height, weight and head circumference. I still think I'd feel better if he was above 10/15 percentile but pediatrician seems fine with it since he is following his natural curve. Plus, they are on regular singleton FT charts. He is doing really well with movement - army crawling, pulling himself up, etc.

Analia is doing well too I think. She is following her growth curve. Although her head is becoming pretty big. If it doesn't grow in proportion to weight/height and follow curve, then we might have a cause for concern. But my ... she has a big head. She is sitting up wonderfully now and still rolls and pivots but no army crawling or standing up on her own. So the pediatrian wanted me to call and get a free state evaluation to err on side of caution. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get her moving more? We put a toy out of her reach. She'll try and reach for it but then just try for something else. Well, now I am all paranoid. My nephew (5 weeks early) who is almost 2 months older JUST started to crawl. So is she THAT far behind?

Analia weighed in at 17lbs 10.25 oz, 27 inches, head 47in
Little Tony weighed in at 17lbs, 10.25oz, 26.5 inches, head 47in

Also, the doctor suggsted more finger foods and more of "table scraps". We have tried puffs again and crackers but not having much luck. Suggestions anyone?

    Thanks!

Have you tried smashed avacado. There is nothing to the preparation of it and I have heard it is healthy. You can smoosh it as much as you need for your babies. We also tried scrambled egg yold the other day. They did not love it but also did not spit it out.

I don't have many suggestions for you, but wanted you to know you are not alone. My twins are 10 months old. My son has been crawling for a couple of months now, but my daughter is not. She still only army crawls and mostly backwards. My ped is not overly concerned. She is also a big baby - at 10 months she is 24 lbs., so my thinking is she just has a lot of weight to pull around, where as my son is nearly four pounds lighter. My daughter did/does everything physical much later than my son, so my guess is she is just a late bloomer. She is however the more vocal of the two :)

As far as table foods, we are having the same problem. They gag on whatever I give them. They are still on jarred baby food, and puffs.

Good luck and I look forward to hearing the replies.

Crawling is a pseudo-milestone because it's not really a milestone that children need to reach in order to continue progressing. It's just something most kids do by a certain point. So don't worry about it, plus it's not uncommon for kids to begin crawling as late as 13 months.

There is a feeding sticky at the top of this forum that has a lot of really great ideas for finger foods. Maybe she'd like something like diced up canned fruit or veggies?

My Sean is going to get in for his free state evaluation, it's really no big deal. They just like to track development and make sure everything is going as it should. They will also suggest things to maybe help her become more motivated.

Our girls are almost 9 months (appt. on the 17th of this month). I just wanted to let you know that one of our girls just had to go down to Children's Hospital to get a head CT. Our pedi has had concerns for awhile. Her head has always been 50th percentile (with the rest of her body at 10th). Our last appt. it was 75th. I was really scared but everything turned out fine - she just has a big noggin!

Oh - I should also add that neither of them are doing any type of crawling either...I am not concerned but I guess we will see how the pedi feels about it next week. They will try to reach for an object but then give up. I think they will figure it out soon enough - probably when I am in the other room doing the dishes or something! I am going to try to enjoy these last days of non-movement...once they start crawling my job is going to get a lot harder!

My DD is a bit older and last week she was spitting out puffs and then today she is downing a handful of them. I tried her on egg yolk yesterday and entire eggs today. I think that one day they will just turn a corner and they will be ready. My boys on the other hand ate everything around 6-7 mo. Best of luck.

Sounds like a good appointment! I would go get the eval, it can only help! Maybe they can give you some good suggestions! As far as the food goes, just keep trying, they will get it. I have always given my kids biter biscuits and zwieback toast first, so they get used to holding things and also used to a new texture. Then I moved on to puffs(with Josh and the twins, anyway), cheerios, soft-cooked fruits and veggies, diced bananas are good.

When we went for our 9 month checkup neither of mine were crawling. The doc wasn't concerned mainly because they had "other" ways of getting around. They were pivoting and pushing backwards. My ds is in physical therapy and I took dd at 8 months because she still wasn't rolling. Anyways, the physical therapists are just play for them. I don't think your daughter is far behind since crawling isn't a milestone. As for her head circumference, it's better to be safe.
I can't comment on your food situation as mine are only now not vommiting every meal with chunky food! And they aren't into puffs.

WOW! You have me really afraid. Mine will be 9 months tomorrow and our appt. is on Friday. I think they are eating table food okay. They eat puffs, cheerios, bananas, pinto beans, cabbage, deli meat, broccoli; however, mostly Stage 3 foods.

Neither of mine are crawling or pulling up yet.

DS rolls, twists, turns, etc. to get to what and where he wants. He will get up on his knees; however, he doesn't do anything with his arms. He has started trying to pull on things; however, has not yet been successful.

DD hates to be on her tummy. She can roll both directions; however, she often just screams when she gets tired of being on her tummy. No signs of any pulling yet.

    Good luck with your kidos!

if you check the Peabody and HELP developmental checklists you will see that your twins are right on track. mine are 9 months also and are doing just about the same thing that yours are and mine go to PT!!! if your dr wants you to get an eval i say go for it!! the state will pay for any services that they think your child(ren) needs and most kids would benefit from one on one therapy anyway (even if they are not behind). don't get yourself to worried :hug99:

Well, the pediatrician wasn't really concerned. If she goes off of her curve at 12 month than maybe but are you thinking we should get it checked to be sure since it's much larger? My MIL has a really big head herself. And I don't mean that in a bad way!
