I was SOOOOO hoping for us to hit 20#! BUT WE DIDN'T. We are barely hanging onto the 3rd%ile on the adjusted charts. Kaysie is 19# 9 oz, and Syd is 19# 2 oz. Syd is 30.5 inches long and Kaysie is 30 inches. It was a good appt - but the dr did say that we are probably going to be yet another month behind developmentally secondary to the girls being sick 3 of the last 4 weeks. They missed several therapy sessions and she said that although kids bounce back- it takes a while of some "healthiness" to get that developing ball rolling. So, ugh, sob, I just want 20#, good eating, walking baby girls! Is that too much to ask [IMG] I know, it'll come but I get worried.

And with their sickness- I know I posted about Syd's cough, which Kaysie now has and she said their lungs sound good, and that it was viral, once again. Kaysie has a rash going on- where you touch her looks like welts. Stupid viruses!

I just don't see why it's so hard to hit 20# when it's so EASY for adults to gain 20# - That's me!! [IMG]

I'm sorry the appointment was disappointing. (FWIW, Amy still hasn't hit 20# either -- she was 17 lbs at 9 months and then seems to have stopped growing!)

About the cough -- you said Syd got the fever first, right? But no rash on her yet? Just wondering if the ped thought Kaysie might have roseola. Stupid viruses. Glad their lungs look good, though.

I'm sorry you had a rough appointment. We would do anything for our kids but unfortunately no matter what we do, sometimes we can't make them gain enough weight. [IMG]

We're having a similar problem with Amanda. The doctor wants her to gain weight so badly and no matter what we do she still keeps sliding. Keep loving them and they'll thrive! You'll see it!

I am sorry about the rough appointment! [IMG] Hang in there!

    But on a happier note...

Happy 18 months Syd and Kaysie!! [IMG] [IMG]

Sorry you didn't hit 20 like you were hoping, but try not to be upset. I don't think they did bad at all, my boys were only 19 1/2 pounds when they had their tubes done and they were 19 months old then! Keep it up and they will get there!!!

I totally understand about hitting 20 lbs. Nicole and Danielle finally hit it at 2 years old. They were 21 lbs and 22 lbs. They are very tall skinny girls and didn't walk until 17 and 19 months because of that.

My niece is 3 1/2 years old and weighs about 26 lbs. Whenever she is over she always asks to "play the game". She weighs herself. She thinks getting up on the scale is a game and she doesn't know that it shows how much she weighs.. just that the dial goes around on the scale. She is just a petite little girl. Her brother is 2 years old today and weighs about 32 lbs. So it's all in their makeup!

Don't beat yourself up. Just because they are in the 3% on the weight chart doesn't mean a thing. What's important is that they are growing on THEIR chart. Maybe they are just going to be little. My niece is 8 and weighs 40lbs. She's tall and skinny. Hang in there. [IMG]

I know they are growing- it's just I have been doing everything I can to get them to gain. I hope no one thought I was complaining- just sharing my news and venting!

And to answer a question asked earlier- Kaysie had roseola a couple weeks ago. The pedi said this is not roseola. I was hoping for something like that- fever and rash. But this rash is weird- it looks like someone took fingernails to her when you touch her.

Thanks all for your encouragement!! I'm glad to hear others are in the same boat that we are (not that I'm glad you're in our boat but that you understand!). Our pedi seemed fine with everything -she said "see you in 6 months". But I am worried they aren't going to walk! Any other encouragement stories would be greatly appreciated and all- THANKS AGAIN!!

You have to take into account their adjusted age when it comes to milestones. Your little sweeties were quite early. My cousins daughter was full term and didn't walk until 15 months.

As far as eating, one thing I learned with Grace is that she will only eat what she wants to, no matter how hard I try. They will catch up. You'll see. Not too long ago it was like someone turned a switch on in Grace and she started eating like there was no tomorrow. I'm guessing she's going to have her biggest weight gain on her 2yr checkup.

My girls are 2 and one is in the 85th percentile, and the other has never even hit the chart yet. My little Kerry didn't walk until 22 months (a full year after her sister), but that doesn't matter now - she runs around and has just as much fun as her sister, and all my worrying was for nothing.

    Best,
    Mia

THANK YOU MIA and ANGELA for your stories of encouragement! This has been one of my greatest fears- probably because EI told me that if they weren't walking by 18 mos. adjusted- they would recommend testing. That flipped me into panic mode! They are pulling up on everything. THey are cruising. I just wish they could get better balance and then go!

I think your girls are doing great. Like I said before, the boys weight was under 20 pounds at 19 months and they were 36 weekers', so I'd say you are doing even better than I was at that point [IMG] They are 33 months now and only 25 pounds but they are consistant which is the important thing, always around the 4th percintile in weight, growing at their own curve. As for walking, I know it is frustrating but it will come in time. I was freaked with the boys not walking as early as the girls. The girls walked at 11 months, and I thought there was something wrong with the boys. Lane finally walked at 15 months and Dustin at almost 17 months. Hang in there a little longer, when it all starts happening (which it usually does all at once) you will see what the rest of us see, which is just how far you have come.

I know you wanted them to hit 20#. It is SUCH A big number- it was to me...My Maddy was just barely 20 # at her 15 month and that is hanging in at the 10%. She also does not walk yet...even now at 16 months. My pedi is getting her checked out, BUT adjusted ( 14 mon adjusted)she is still in the 'normal ' range..they won't worry until she is 18 adjusted. It is so hard not to worry!

They will get there though [IMG] Espec. with being sick! I am sure if they had felt well a few more ounces would have been all it would have taken!

Hey, girl! Just saw your post! Listen...those girls are going to walk. They wouldn't be pulling up and cruising if they weren't going to. We all want our babies to be "perfect," and it's so hard when things don't pan out the way we were hoping or expecting. But, soon you'll see that you've been worrying for nothing. For as early as they were, THEY ARE DOING GREAT! I see your tickers sometimes, and I just can't get over how healthy they look. Eighteen months adjusted is in three more months, right? Think about how much they can change in three months! sounds like everything went well at the appointment, well...except for the 20 pound thing! Hey...I'm 5'10", and I'd love to be a little petite thing! LOL They'll get there! Talk to you soon!

Hey April- I'm 5'8" and I hear you on wishing we were petite things! [IMG] I am trying to stay focused on staying positive! It's hard! You know what I'm talking about [IMG]

Kenna didn't hit 20lbs till just last month at 20 mos old! Mitchell had hit it the month before that but well..you know that story!!

So many of my friends babies who were born full term didn't walk till 15-16mos old and their drs didn't think anything about it bc they were cruising around.

Also this little boy we met at gymnastics while watching my dd was 17 mos old and had no interest in walking. He cruised and did everything. Then one day around 19 mos old..the mom said he just started walking, like he was like "okay I guess I will walk today and not crawl anymore!". If your ped isn't concerned...then try not to be. The adjusted age is used about up until 2yo from what I remember.

Sounds like they are really doing great though!!! Tiny petite girls is fine right!!! (I say that bc that explains me and my sisters)...well I could stand to be a bit more tiny.
