Our 16 3/4 month appointment (?!) ... culture shock!

We had our first Dutch appointment today. A little different but all well.

Maxine is getting a little "fat", but the doctor said she was absolutely fine with it. Most babies are at their "fattest" between 9 and 18 months and slim down between age 2 and 3. She eats a lot too! Sofie was heavier, but also more than 2 inches taller so ...

    Maxine was 27lbs12oz (12.6kg) and 31 1/2 inches (80 cm).
    Felix was 26lbs11oz (12.1kg) and 31 3/4 inches (80 1/2 cm)

According to the Dutch charts they're slightly below average for height, but slightly over (and Maxine quite a bit) for weight. However, on the CDC charts Felix is 50% for both and Maxine is 50% for height and 90% for weight. But, the Dutch are the tallest people in the world so our average is apparently a little higher than in the US.

Sofie had her 4 yo appointment last week (1 month early) and she was 43" and 43lbs. Both 95% in the US, but only 75% for height in the Netherlands (and she's huge) and slightly above average for weight ... funny!

Both got 2 shots, their DTaP+Hib (combo) and Meningitis C (which we had several outbreaks off with deaths a few years ago). They both did NOT cry! My little troopers!

Sounds like they are doing fantastic! That's so interesting, I didn't know that the Dutch were the tallest. Good to know! And :clapping: for Maxine and Felix not crying for their shots, that's impressive!!!

How funny, I never thought about the fact that the growth charts would be different in different countries! (Duh...) FWIW, my babies were at their "fattest" from about 6-9 months. They didn't gain much from 9-12 months, and since then, it seems they've only stretched out!

Anyway, glad you had a good appt, and no crying!

When you get to Hong Kong, let us know where they place on the Chinese growth charts. Now THAT will be a culture shock!
