I just started using this with dd. And I was just wondering about a few things to make sure I was doing it right.

    Does it really work?
How much do you put on?
How often can you use it?
Do you use it instead of Tylenol or in addition to?

I never used a lot of it because it can numb their throats so you have to be very careful with it.

I think it works for the immediate pain, but doesn't last long, IMO.

I just put a very small dab on my finger and rubbed in on the gums.

I don't know how often you can use it, but I never used it often, just on occasion, because it can numb their throat if too much is swallowed.

I just used Tylenol mainly for teething.

I tried some on myself. I put a little dab, just a touch, on my gum, and it numbed my whole mouth. I don't think that can be avoided. Since it numbs everything it does take the pain away but it only lasts about 15 minutes. It numbs the back of the throat too which is annoying, but as the pp said, there are warnings out there that it can interfere with breathing or make a baby choke, so be careful. I rarely use this, and I've really only used it in extreme situations where nothing else has helped, and then I've had the baby sleep with me. I use it in addition to Tylenol or infant Motrin.

Lots of people swear by Hylands teething tablets. I tried those with my dds. They are calming (somewhat) but I am not sure if they take the pain away. The main ingredients are chamomile and a touch of belladonna. Some babies are allergic to belladonna and they have had extreme reactions. If you're going to use these, you may want to try giving chamomile tea instead, which is safe. One of dds won't drink the tea which is why I have the tablets.

    I hope this helps!

I am a registered Dental Hygienist, and that product is safe. I am also a mother of two already, and two MOMO ID girls coming around Easter. I have used this product on both of my first two children and will continue to use it for teething when the time comes again. It topically coats the gums to take the "pulsing" away. The children hate the taste, so most try to spit the taste out, and do not swallow it. It calms them down for 15 minutes, or more if you are lucky. You should give them tylenol as well- especially when the teething gets really bad for them (and you).....I have always used both meds at the same time.

I used it on my two and they had no problems with it numbing their throats. It worked wonders.

I also used it in addition to tylenol/motrin.
