i have some orajel. im not sure how it even works for them. everytime i go to apply is he fuses his mouth shut and i wind up doing his whole lip, lol.

    any tips?

it's a topical numbing agent. i put some on the tip of my finger and then stuck my finger back to the teething area. they'd cry for a minute, then it seemed to help.

Just make sure you are putting it on after they eat because if you put it on right before meal time it may effect their swallowing because a little oragel can numb a large area. Also you could try hylands teething tablets. Best of luck

Yep, a little Orajel goes a long way! Just rub a bit on their gums. If they won't open their mouth, you can try pinching their cheeks together with your other hand. :pardon:

I would put a little orajel either on my finger or on a Q-tip to get it on the area of incoming tooth. Good luck!

I use hylands teething tablets during the day, save the motrin for at night, and tylenol never did much for my kids teething troubles.

I agree with putting a small (very small) amt of the oragel on your fingertip or a qtip to apply it.

Chewing on cold washcloths, or on refridgerated toys always seemed to help too!

hopefully you get it figured out. I second the Hylands tablets. just be sure you read the instructions. I think you can give up to 3 at a time? mine will open their mouths like little birdies they love them.... and they really seem to have a good affect on how the babies feel.

I didn't find these until after the twins were 12 months... and before that I guess I just tried the orajel.

Honestly, I've never given any of my kids anything for teething. My philosophy is that if you let them teeth through the first few they tend to be more resilient on the others where they aren't as fussy. Cold wash cloths do seem to help, but I really wouldn't continue to dose on tylenol and motrin unless they are really, really having unusually rough nights where they aren't sleeping at all. And even then I would probably sooner take them to the pedi just to make sure there are no ear infections going on.

I just bought some Cocyntal vials for teething. They get really good reviews and I thought the Cocyntal vials for colic/tummy pains worked awesome. I haven't received these yet but can't wait to try them out!

ETA: I compared the homeopathic ingredients between the colic cocyntal vials and these and they are in fact very different ingredients to treat specific problems.

We trained (LOL that's not really the right word) our twins to put the pre-medicated oral-gel Q-tips in their mouths where it hurt, and they would do that until the medicine was gone....

I guess that meant we used them to much?!?! :) We didn't really 'train' them, they just started doing it and eventually they just caught on that when we give the Q-tip, they put it where it hurts.. they LOVED Oral-gel.

My son, not so much..... He fuses his mouth shut also and HATES the taste of Oral-gel. Unfortunately, he's one that has a REAL BAD time with teething, to the point of not sleeping at all. And, unfortunately there again, Tylenol is the only thing that will help him sleep. So I give him 2 chewable tylenol's (He's 19 months) before bed and he'll sleep like a champ. Miss that dose though.... it's a hellacious night for all. Of course this is only during teething. once he cuts the tooth, no more tylenol until the next round comes in...
